Family just cash purchased a Honda Pilot EX-L. AutoNation Honda Chandler ran a credit check after I specifically asked when we filled out the "Credit Application" sheet if they were going to run a credit check and sales representative Mike M****r said "no." As a cash purchase over $10,000 what they need is IRS form 8300 to be filled out. Auto dealers want to run the credit check instead so they can offer your financing where they make more money. Don't believe me, search edmunds.com and look up Patriot Act. Running a credit check dings your credit. I don't think Mike was intentionally deceitful but was given incorrect information during his orientation. I personally did a cash purchase of over $10,000 from this same dealer about 2 years ago without having my credit run using IRS 8300. Other than the credit application issue, we had a good experience with this auto dealer.
