The beginnings of AXA: the former Mutual of RouenEdit

The former mutual of Rouen was a small French insurance company, created in 1817, from the Mutual Company against fire (departments Seine-Lower and Eure), whose main function was to cover agricultural risks in Normandy. It is on this mutual that the future AXA group will develop. Its seat was located in front of the cathedral of Rouen. In 1946 was born the group Ancienne mutuelle, merger of mutuals (Calvados, Rouen, Orleans); the creation of social security transforms the world of insurance.

This mutual had already started a timid internationalization in 1955 by acquiring a Quebec company called Provinces-United.
