Waddeson is a terrific place to visit, my favourite National Trust stately home.

It was build for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild as a county pad and somewhere to store his art collection.

The house is a a riot of art and is really worth visiting. It s closed for lockdown now, but when it open again, it s just incredible with lots in historic artefacts and an interesting museum.

The grounds are great - very large with many interesting walking and plenty of destinations. There are a couple of woodland playground (one for younger kids and one for older) which can hold attention for a long time. Also, there are lots of interesting corners like the tulip patch and Alice s woodland drive which are fun for strolling around

The aviary is a particular highlight, especially when it s quiet with fewer visitors. The birds are wonderful, including at least one species which is extinct in the wild.

There is a lot of parking, but it gets very busy. The car park is fair walk from the house, and outside of lockdown there is a shuttle bus if you don t want to walk (it s a nice stroll)
