I bought a house on land contract. I called in May to have the electric put into my name. They denied me stating the previous renters owed them money and if needed to be paid before I could connect it in my name. At the time this happened I was on my way to Florida. I thought maybe the past tenants would have taken care of their bill by the time I got back and moved in. The night I got back from Florida June 19th and moved in the power was off. I called the next day to have it turned on in my name and after sending the land contract they connected it June 19th, which was also the date of the land contract. They are now trying to bill me back, starting May 4th..even though they refused it put it in my name. My meter reading from the day they connected it in my name was an extremely high amount, even though they didn t connect it until 3pm that day. They are a very crooked company and I only use them because I have no other choice. Shame on them for back dating my electric service for during a time the electric wasn t even in my name! They are trying to re coop their money I guess from the previous tenants and are trying to make me pay for service during a time it wasn t even in my name. Not to mention them charging me a reconnection fee, even though it is new service for me.
