This library is a magnificent architecture. At least I can only say about the outside. You'll read that the dome is open to the public BUT it is not. Even after you find your way to the correct corridor, the Regenstien library (where they give access passes) have strict restrictions for the public. Even if you're a student in Chicago you must demonstrate/prove a "research" need to be in the library.
I drove nearly an hour (would be close to 2 hours on CTA) to be told I can't go in, although I've read on plenty of sites that they have certain hours open to the public.
