i am a tourist in rome and am happy i got served with no hassle due to the eu healthcare card i brought with me. at the desk there seemed to be a language barrier, but i was soon helped by a warmhearted volunteer who walked me through the process; check-in, registration, wristband. he was a big help, god bless him!

i am from a nordic country so the whole thing was different from what i'm used to. the doors were open all the time so there was no privacy; the doctor wasn't trying to be professionally neutral; we had to go back and forth all the time; while they were taking a blood sample from me, the next patient was coming in.. etc. but everything seemed to work, i got my prescription so as far as public italian hospitals go, i guess this one's ok!
