Powell's City of Books is the largest bookstore in Portland but the Hawthorne location is still my favorite. The staff is more welcoming. The selection is less overwhelming. The layout is more inviting. It all adds up to a more comfortable, more familiar bookstore feel. It just fits me better. I love this place. Make sure you pick up a cup of their excellent coffee or tea and take some extra time to browse the specials in the main aisle. Always a good bet.
