I was admitted to 2242 recently. I must say my entire experience from the ER through my stay was wonderful. My night nurse was fantastic and my day nurse was really good. I was pleased because as a former telemetry nurse there I kind of still consider myself part of the JFK family and want them to do good. On discharge my scripts were not signed, I realized this when I went to the drop them off, no problem errors occur and I should have looked over my DC documents. I picked up a nice thank you card, called, asked for my DC nurse who promised to call scripts in. I went home and asked a relative to pick up my prescribed medications on his way from work. Since it would be out of his way, I wanted to ensure the scripts were sent so I called the hospital to verify. I spoke to someone I later found out was Yannik. She did not identify herself and was very abrupt and abrasive. She stated she could not hear me and transferred me to the operator. I called again and asked for the nurse for 2242 and this time another lady picked up the phone and informed me there was no patient in that room. I informed her that I was the patient in that room I was just discharged and I just want to speak to the nurse assigned that room. She again informed me there was no patient in the room and she had a hard time hearing me. I spoke a little louder, explained that I just left and I just need to verify the script was called in. She again told me there was no patient in that room and hung up after accusing me of yelling. I again called asked for a nurse manager and was transferred to someone called Yannik whose voice I recognize as the initial abrasive person I spoke to. I understand the challenges nurses face in the acute care setting. I try to be very self sufficient when admitted to any hospital. I do not get all nursery with the staff and far from demanding. After such attentive care, I am disappointed that the simple act of correcting a small error resulted in the poor customer care, rudeness and lack of concern about my continuity of care. I am very grateful though for the kind attention of my two bedside nurses. Carol Bryan- Nelson.
