Husband and I stayed here for one night on our honeymoon in June 2012. Front desk/hotel service was EXCELLENT, and our room was very nice--we stayed in the officer's quarters with a view, and were very comfortable.
Unfortunately, I will never want to eat at their restaurant again. I have a severe peanut allergy. The hostess (an out-of-country intern) had no idea what I was trying to say about peanuts or allergies. She barely understood English--which would be ok if we could have communicated some other way. The chef treated me like I was bothering him when I asked if he could suggest something on the menu which would be safe, and never explained how the food was prepared. His response to "I have a peanut allergy" was "yeah, I've done food for that before" and in response to my question "do you cook with peanuts/peanut oil" was "not everything", but with no explanation. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, which I was too afraid to eat (chef never came back to the table to ask how it was, and we were the only customers). And my husband ordered a chicken fried steak. Very expensive, very unpleasant service. If I happen to be in Lajitas again, I'll be sure to pack food with me.
