Review of Summer House Santa Monica

My wife and I made Friday night dinner reservations at Summer House to celebrate our anniversary. We were slightly disappointed to learn it's a chain with a second location in our hometown of Washington, DC, but we're still glad we went.

It's in the nice neighborhood of Lincoln Park and in a very big space! When you walk in, you'll be in the lobby where you can purchase coffee and pastries. To the right is another restaurant and to the left is Summer House. The space is beautiful, big, and very summery. You definitely feel like you're in Santa Monica.

The food itself was decent to good. Since we unlocked the Yelp discount when we checked in, we got a plate of free chips and guacamole. The California kale salad followed by caramelized brussels sprouts was up next. Both were great!

We had the quinoa & forbidden black rice bowl for our main meal and we were disappointed. It was too potato heavy and lacked any flavor. Maybe the Midwest tones things down, but it literally almost tasted like air. Curry needs bold flavor!
