Amazing addition to downtown Austin!

The central library opened a few years ago and is a gem.

If you are a tourist it s a great stop on your downtown stroll. Central staircase takes you up six flights to a rooftop garden and beautiful view of the lake. Local artwork and glass throughout give your lots of aha moments. Paid parking but better option is finding a place on the street as cheaper rates or Uber or walk from someplace close that s free.

If you are a local and wanting a quiet place to work the or read, bring your patience on the weekend. The constant in and out of tourists can be a drag but we love the money they spend. If you are truly working would recommend the sixth floor area near the outdoor garden or for a truly quiet spot the fourth floor reading room for a truly quiet spot. Note no talking or noise in this room and people will truly shush you out or get someone to ask you to leave.

Recommend a stop in their cafe for great coffee (free refills all day) or a bite inspired by books in the library.
