There are 3 main problems with Kings Island that I'm going to list in no particular order.
1. The prices are completely outrageous. It's almost $40 for entry, $20 to park, and then any food is at least $15 for a meal. Oh and if you want drinks for the whole day? Another $15 for a souvenir cup. No free refills on soft drinks. The fast passes are $68 a person as well. And also, only the fast pass customers are treated as customers here.
2. Alcohol and smoking problem. My husband, one of our mutual friends, and I went to Kings Island and Halloween haunt. We constantly smelled smoke on the haunted houses, in line, and just walking around. I'm not talking about the mist they pump out at night. I'm talking about cigarette smoke. Inside of the haunted houses. The staff kept saying to only smoke in designated area and said they would report anyone who was smoking, but this was an all day problem. Also, Kings Island does not cut people off when they've had too much to drink. We went to wait in line and though the people walking towards us were trying to get past so we quickly went to the side, into the line. One man got very angry (he was obviously drunk) and started yelling about not letting anyone in front of them in line, looking at us. To avoid a fight, we quickly apologized and stood in line behind them. All of the members of their group then started smoking in line for the attraction. Security and police were competent ineffective.
3. Unaccompanied teenagers. We were in the park until 12:30am due to Halloween haunt. At Kings Island, teenagers are permitted to run around without supervision after dark. Due to this lack of supervision, we witnessed very inapporpriate behavior. This included a lot of sexual touching while in line for several attractions and we also witnessed a physical fistfight. Security did nothing about the sexual behavior and responded very slowly to the fistfight. These complaints are in addition to the teenagers being generally rude and obnoxious.
Honestly, Kings Island has some major problems. The attractions are fun, but short, and you have to wait 1-2 hours for about a minute of attraction. Halloween haunt probably has the best value, because there are people constantly scaring you and the atmosphere is better than during the day. But after 10pm, there is very little action taken by staff and security to maintain civil behavior in the park. We live close to Kings Island, but it would probably be easy to find another theme park with better value.
