The University of Naples Federico II is one of the oldest state universities in Italy and the world.

Founded on June 5, 1224 by the Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and King of Sicily Frederick II of Swabia, it is the main Neapolitan academy and one of the most important in Italy and Europe. Famous for being the oldest university founded through a state provision, it is believed to be the oldest secular and state university in the world.
