This child-friendly museum captures slices of New York history in a fascinating way. Head to the top floor to see thousands of artifacts from NYC, or check out the amazing featured exhibits (Audubon, the current one, is incredible and surprisingly thorough).

The highlight of the Museum's collection is Thomas Cole's five-painting series "The Course of Empire". The current exhibition location isn't ideal, but it's worth the price of admission to see these incredibly detailed Hudson River School paintings.
