This sprawling, lush, hilly cemetery was established back in the 1830s just as Americans were taking a more romantic, thoughtful approach to death and honoring their departed loved ones. It really reads more like a gorgeous public park, that happens to be packed with headstones and memorials, than a traditional cemetery. Be sure and visit the reception chapel and pick up a map, then make your way down Fountain Ave to Magnolia, then to Mountain, all the way up to the high granite tower overlooking the entire city.
