Melissa Morgan Review of Epworth villa
My Mother lived at Epworth for 15 years. She lived...
My Mother lived at Epworth for 15 years. She lived in independent living for 12 years, assisted living for 3 months and Memory care for almost 3 years. She loved the independent living and this is the only reason I m giving them 1star. The minute she began to have any health problems it became a disaster. They didn t handle my Mother s impending memory problems well with us at all. I have so much to say I can t possibly fit it all in this review so I will hit the main points. My mother passed away from COVID-19 on February 5th 2021 that she contracted while living in memory care. We thought that she would be safer with them because memory care had such limited exposure, obviously if I had it to do over I would NEVER have left her in Epworth. We were told by the head of assisted living they had no idea how she got it no one else on the floor had it. Then after I spoke with a nurse when I was cleaning out Moms room numerous residents had Covid and at that time another Man was very ill fighting for his life. This is one of my major complaints about Memory care they are not transparent when dealing with family! When I say they I mean the administration, we had several lovely nursing staff that cared deeply for my Mother in memory care. The biggest problems we had were with the Doctor Ashley Ford she was horrible! She didn t even diagnose a UTI correctly she told us it was just disease progression and when I asked her to retest my Mother she refused. I took my Mother to another doctor off site who diagnosed her with a raging UTI that took 10 days of antibiotics to clear it up. She also misdiagnosed my mother with a hurt shoulder when she fell at Epworth, she had actually fractured a vertebrae. When my Mother came down with Covid Ashley Ford refused to release her to go get the antibodies infusion because she had been admitted to skilled nursing at Epworth. We had to fight with them for 2 days to get her released to go which was precious time, when we picked her up to take her she was too sick to receive the transfusion and was immediately admitted to Integris with severe covid pneumonia and she died a few days later. Outside of the Covid situation we had numerous other situations over the years. The receptionist at the front desk Michelle is one of the rudest people I have ever encountered. We had several times that she interfered with my Mother and after my mother had passed away I went to pick up a bag of her things that had been left at the front desk, they had been there several weeks. She said it s about time! When I asked for the items I said well my Mother did pass away and she said yes. Not I m sorry for your loss? She is a very bad representation of your company. If you are looking for a place for your loved one that needs extra care I feel for you. It s a very hard decision and finding a place that will care and love your family member is one of the biggest challenges. I will say that the majority of the staff in memory care were very caring especially Tajin, Destiny, Ben and Lola. They were wonderful to my Mother BUT not being able to have confidence in the administration that they are going to be transparent with all details concerning your loved one is a deal breaker. Especially when I went a year without being allowed to see her, besides once a month drive thru. I also asked on a Thursday for a FaceTime call with my mother when she came down with Covid because I wanted to see her face and talk to her to make sure how she was doing. I was told by Courtnee Williams that the soonest she could let me talk to her on FaceTime was Monday. That was five days!!!!!! When she was sick with Covid, she was in the hospital before they were even going to let me talk to her on FaceTime. In conclusion Epworth Villa can be a lovely place to live as long as your loved one has no health problems or God forbid memory issues. Once you cross that threshold you receive a dramatically different experience that robs the elderly of their independence and dignity.
