I only went to the Grand Hotel to visit because I was told it was a must when at Mackinac Island. The hotel from the outside is huge and stunning, but I was annoyed that some seemingly random lady was standing in the street stopping people and requiring $10 to tour the hotel/grounds beyond the main street. We paid, and even with the map we were handed couldn't find our way around the hotel without assistance. Honestly I think the inside is extremely gaudy from top to bottom, and the staff seemed annoyed that people didnt know where to go in a confusing maze where you have to guess which elevator is correct and where the stairs lead. Even a guest we ran in to asked where we got a map because they couldn't find their way around. Other than saying I've been there I don't feel I got much out of the trip, definitely wouldn't suggest paying the money, especially since afterwards we learned there are many ways to get in free.
