Lulu's is my compromise between having to cross county lines to grab just-OK pastries from Marzullo's, or schlep out of my way up Franny Lew to D'Aquila, which the traffic on Northern rarely allows. I like most of their offerings, but they have their shortcomings.

First, the good: Their cassatina is one of the most authentic that I've had outside Sicily. The hazelnut cannoli and sfogliatelle are unbelievable. Their magic is not limited to pastry, either. When I got the Banana-Nutella tart for a family party I won over the crowd immediately.
The Meh: Rainbow cookies were too cakey, part of it is a matter of preference but they weren't what I'd consider authentic. Also, their croissant/cornetto was just off. The crema pasticceria was right, but the actual pastry was heavy and overly sweet, just felt more American-style.

Despite my critiques, they certainly dominate in quality compared to other bakeries in the area. I don't think that Martha's or Buttercooky could measure up to them.
