I inquired about purchasing a Tacoma online to help my Dad. I was specific in my requests to them wanting a clear out the door price which means including the taxes and fees. All other dealerships around had no problem giving me exactly what I was looking for but not Sun Toyota. They like to play games. However, my parents showed me their fee breakdown they got earlier in the day from Sun Toyota. They also charge the most fees when comparing them to my other quotes for the same exact truck. Like a Sun protection package for $1695 plus a high destination fee of $960 plus a pre delivery charge of $985! When negotiating they wouldn't remove the Sun protection package but reduced the cost to $695. Their GAP is also very high like most other dealerships. My best advice is shop online for the best price including taxes and fees to all Toyota dealerships you're willing to travel too and secure your financing elsewhere. Save yourself the hassel of going to the dealership and you will save a lot of money! I wouldn't recommend doing business with Sun Toyota. Too overpriced and shady. They will make you feel like you got a great deal but you actually need to make sure you got a great deal. They shouldn't be charging two almost identical fees. Most dealerships charge a $899 dealer fee and that's it. You don't need all the extra warranties they try to sell you either. Be an educated and patient buyer so you don't get ripped off. Even the other Toyota dealerships warned me to not even bother with Sun Toyota or they weren't surprised when we told them about our experience with them. Don't get sucked in with low finance offers because by the time you over pay for GAP and all the add on fees they will charge it's not worth it! I'd recommend financing with your bank or credit union. Keep car buying and financing separated so it's easier to know what you're paying. Negotiate the price of the car before discussing financing, down payment or trade in and never give your social at the dealership or they most likely will run your credit. We had the best customer service and offer from Clearwater Toyota. They made it a painless process to purchase from them. Terry Hummel gave me the price I was looking for with his very first offer. He listened and gave me exactly what I wanted from the start with no games. The price did not change when I went to close at the dealership either! I would gladly purchase from him again in the future.
