I would like to share my experience with the Weichert family. They are awful people. In 2017 me and my 8 year old daughter at the time escaped an abusive relationship and found a split family home in Chatham owned by Barbara Weichert. We spent every penny we have to make that move over the summer because as everyone knows you need movers , deposit money and first months rent up front. Her daughter Kristen Weichert- Monks is the property manager and Mary Weichert is the family listing real estate agent. Soon after we moved in there were electrical issues with the unit. When I tried to call or message Kristen because she was the property manager I would get an email from Mary following up. It became routine to message Kristen and Mary would respond instead. So Mary told me that she talked to Barabara , the landlord and they will give me the opportunity to move out if I want. Of course we just moved in and that was not an option. My daughter was registered in a new school and financially it was not possible for us. I was very upset that was the approach they took so that they did not have to fix the electrical problem. So they proceeded to have to go to the dirt wet scary basement to flip a circuit switch every time my electric went out. Of course they did not like that. The electric bill just for my unit was $400 a month and I am in debt with JCP& L currently. A free government agency was willing to come out to check if electricity was working properly but Managemnt refused. Within the almost two years we lived there Mary would correspond by email because Kristen decided she did not want to be bothered by tenants. So on April 2019 I received an email from Mary Weichert telling me the landlord will not renew my lease. I messaged Kristen about it and I received no answer so I proceeded to correspond with Mary by email regarding my vacating details in which we agreed to a move out date and walk through date. We also agreed I would get my full deposit back and all they need from me was to spackle the walls. Everything changed when Mary pulled out of the situation and told me the landlord is taking over. I never got communication regarding the walk through . They proceeded to do the walk through on their own and returned half my deposit back. They charged me for cleaning and painting and did not reimburse money that was owed to me. I tried to call and message but everyone in the family ghosted me. I am filing a court complaint but the headache they put me through and stress cannot be repaired with money. They are all an awful family to deal with if you are a tenant. They take advantage of struggling people because they think we are powerless. I Will never deal with anyone from the Weichert family ever again and I will make sure everyone knows what they did to a struggling single parent with small child. Shame on them.
