This has got to be the only place in the city that only accepts American Express and cash.

That is to say the whole place is an anachronism, but in this case, that's a good thing. From the old marquee out front, to the stiffly poured manhattan's, to the booth where Al Capone used to sit where he could see both doors ( so he could make an exit if the cops, or a rival showed up) this place oozes history and character.

Add to that some of the better musician's in Chicago ( personal favorites are the fat babies and Swing Gitan) and there are few places I like more in Chicago.

Easy to get to off the Lawrence Red Line, food options nearby include Lao Sze Chuan or if it's late and you had too much to drink Gigio's for a slice.

Don't forget, you can see Chicago's own live magazine, Paper Machete there Sunday afternoons.
