If you are looking for a place to go to have a good time with friends this is not the place for you. I have always wanted to go to this place, but never gotten around to it. We arrived before 7:30 on a Tuesday night when the place was dead: at most 3 other customers. We ordered a drink, but they refused to serve us a second round until we payed a $7 a piece cover for a show that was happening after 9pm. Within 20 minutes we were harassed 3 times about this cover and my friend was finished with his beer before the unidentified band even got around to playing. We left 15 minutes in to middling jazz. This is an establishment that does not care if their patroms are having a good time and merely gouging customers for the experience of being in this historic Chicago bar. My recommendation: skip it, there are plenty of friendly spots for a beer in this glorious city.
