WYSE. Eddie Review of Athénée Palace Bucharest Hilto...
Where to begin!
Where to begin!
First of all I thank the front desk staff for getting me a room even though I arrived around 0330 with a check in time 12 hours earlier than anticipated! They did their best and got me a junior suite for the night at no extra fee! It pays to be both a diamond and team member! I was debating on booking a night or 2 because I wanted to scope this place out!
The junior suite was very roomy! The air conditioner was amazing! I was able to set it to 0 degrees Celsius which for me is heaven! The breakfast at the executive lounge was plentiful! Throw in the balcony outside and I had an amazing breakfast with a great view!
The whole place feels like a palace! Its so rich in riches, safe location, I felt like nothing could go wrong! I went to talk to concierge to suggest me points of interest for my first day in Romania. I was confronted by this gentleman named Daniel. I'll never forget him! At first he gave me a weird sinister look but he was only playing It off to see my reaction. He changed his demeanor to this friendly, super chatty, weird sense of humor (my style) that had me not wanting to leave concierge! It feels like I've been knowing Daniel all my life! We shared a few stories, he made me laugh, I didn't want our conversation to end! I asked him if he can book me a tour of Dracula's castle and he pulled out the map and pointed to the touring company (Mister Tripp) and suggested it. He went out his way to book me, even if I changed my mind, and to contact him later if I was 100% certain I'd go for it. He assured me the tour was a reputable one.
So I went on with my day however I did forget to book one more night stay. I tried to book on my Hilton Honors app but found out it was all sold out. The next day I had my tour but before going on board, I spoke to front desk to see if they can do something about the room. They told me to pack my stuff just in case it needed to be moved, and the lady in front desk assured me she would have a room for me after my tour.
I was told I'd be back between 1900-2000 hrs, however the tour was pretty bad. It wasn't organized, we rushed Dracula's castle, and worst of all we arrived back to the hotel by 2230. I was very upset about it and warned the front desk to not let any other hotels guests go through what I went through. I was very unhappy because I wasn't able to have a last minute meal on my last day in Romania. Well here's where things get complicated with the Hilton.
I came back and was told that I can't be given a room, even though I was promised one earlier that morning, so that really sucked since I had a flight at 0600 the next day. You would think they'd show some concern but no they just shrugged and told me that there was nothing they can do. I know there are other Hiltons near by so why wasn't I suggested the other location? In my situation, I would think I would be shown a bit more concern but I felt lost and hopeless after not having a place to sleep. But lucky for me the Hilton Garden Inn in hometown had some rooms available even though I only used it to get 4 hours of sleep.
I would easily give this place 5 stars, but for what happened in my final day of my vacation, I have to knock it down 1 star. The tour company was out of their control but I really wish they would reconsider working with another company so that others don't come back disappointed. I was overall satisfied with the place, the executive lounge, the super early check in, but my last memory of Romania should not have ended this way!
