I purchased my Genuine Buddy and my partner also bought one here 4 years ago and had it serviced regularly. About a year ago I started having issues with my Buddy dying at a stop. Every time I d stop, the engine would die. I took it in for a tuneup and that didn t fix the issue. I took it back and asked them to fix the issue. They always seemed confused and unsure of what to do. The manager of the service department told me that I had too many miles on the bike (15,000 at that point) and would need an engine rebuild.
Somehow that didn t sound quite right. I disputed his suggestion and in return he asked me if I knew anything about engines! I can t say that I know a lot, but having to rebuild the engine at 15,000 miles doesn t sound like a very reliable vehicle if that s what I will have to do every 15,000 miles.
I left and continued to drive holding the break with one hand and throttle in the other for months.
I took the bike to Second City Scooters and got an oil change and complained about the engine dying every time I stopped. Vince suggested a tuneup. I came back for a tuneup and as I m going to get a coffee, he calls and said that I am in need of a valve adjustment. He does the valve adjustment and voila! No more dying at a stop. I since have traded the bike in for a much bigger bike and I didn t trade it in at Scooterworks! If that s how they treat their customers, I m not going to be one of theirs. No thank you!
