Being an intern at Curamericas for the past 2 months has been a great experience. I have met wonderful, committed people that work towards fulfilling the organization s goals and have had the chance to learn more about global health issues as well as incorporate new skills. In a few words, Curamericas Global strives to provide primary health services to mothers and young children in poverty-stricken communities around the world. I worked with the project being implemented in Guatemala, specifically with the testimonies of people served by the project, which gave me the chance to understand first-hand how important the endeavor is. Two essential components pave the way to successful interventions: they are locally-based and culturally-appropriate. By helping to provide services while engaging the locals and respecting their customs and traditions, the project has a greater impact and ensures its sustainability. I very much look forward to volunteering with Curamericas in the future!
