About 10 years ago we remodeled our waterfront home. Nichiha siding was recommended by the contractor and supplier because of the pre-finished color, durability and warranty. This is beautiful and expensive stuff... probably 5x more than traditional siding. We were told that it had a 25 year warranty. Fast forward only 8 years and I began to notice color variations and inconsistent fading on most of the house. I contacted Nichiha. At first it seemed like they were well aware of the issue. I was asked to fill out some forms, take photos, and prove ownership. They forwarded my complaint to Sherwin-Williams who purchased the company that Nichiha used for the refinishing process. My complaint was quickly reviewed and denied. Some scientific term called "efflorescence" was to blame and is not covered. Overall this stuff looks nice and the material is durable but it will have to be painted regularly. That's the part they mislead you. In the end it's way less expensive to use top end vinyl siding and replace it every 10 years or more. The Nichiha warranty means nothing.... they don't stand behind it. Sherwin-Williams doesn't assume the liability of the company they took over either. The house needs to be painted now and I will make sure that not a drop of Sherwin-Williams products are used either. I can be reached at hassellbros@hotmail with any questions.
