A long overdue hip replacement surgery was performed at JFK Medical Center. I have no complaints. The results of the surgery were wonderfully unexpected.
However (there's always a however), the surgery was financed through Medicare and I didn't realize how much financially I would be responsible for. So, the knowledge gap between what I was expecting to pay (nothing would have been optimal) and the bills I received was unexpected.
Since I had no idea what my costs would be denied me the opportunity to make an informed decision on whether or not to proceed with the surgery.
I rely soley on social security for income.
I've taken a big hit on my budget.
I can't economize more than I do to pay my part of the costs for the surgery.
Had I known the costs. I could have planned accordingly.
...the hospital was rather blithe in telling me, after registering me the morning of surgery, that the cost of registering me would be $200.00. ..."and how would you like to pay?...
Very much like the ploy car dealerships use when charging you $200 for floor mats.
* Hidden car rental fees
* Airport baggage handling fees
* Hotel room charges
* I'm sure anyone reading this can come-up with more examples.
* And, last but not least, Hospital Registration Fees.
