I didn't stay there but went to attend the meeting conducted by the Election dept yesterday. I was very upset to see the Accessible toilet on the 2nd floor was dirty and unhygienic. When I showed it to the staff he had just flushed the toilet twice or thrice and asked me to use it.
Nor did I have the energy to look for another Accessible toilet in another corner of the hotel, so used the same. After usage there was not even a handwash or soap inside the toilet. Then I called the manager who too apologised and made the soap etc brought up as well as clean the toilet. When there are posters n stickers about personal hygiene n safety on the walls, this is the case with essential services. What if I had catched an infection from that toilet, would the apology of the manager help me? That too people with health Disabilities are most vulnerable with regard to any infection.
This attitude on the poor facilities and lack of maintenance of services to Persons with Disabilities even in such a posh hotel is really shocking and unacceptable. Another question is why are Accessible toilets assigned in some corner of the hotel, which Persons with Disabilities have to navigate around 200 meters from any event / meeting hall. Why can't every toilet be made into an accessible toilet. Incase of it's unusability it we need to navigate another 400 meters when such services should be made available and Accessible for Persons with Disabilities on first priority.
