My wife and I went to Lajitas for a four-day break and were actually disappointed. Yes, some things were great but others were not.

On the positive side, it's a beautiful drive to the resort and the golf at Black Jack's crossing made the trip worth while. While we are in our late 50s we like to do fun things when traveling. The first day we did a 4.5 hour rafting tour on the Rio Grande with Angell's Adventures. Our guide's name is Doug. We really enjoyed the trip and the river was moving fairly well. There were a couple of class 2 rapids that were fun. Doug took great care of us and ensured we were safe the entire trip. We also booked a zip line tour through Lajitas and that was great too. The zip line course was very close to the resort and most of the actual ziplines were long and fast.

On the negative side, we upgraded to a cottage so we would have a kitchen. Turns out the kitchen was a two burner stove and some pots and pans. No toaster, no microwave. And the refrigerator would not hold a gallon of water standing up. The rest of the room was fine except they don't vacuum the floors every day. We ate at the resorts restaurant the first night and the hostess asked if we had a reservation. It was 5:00 and there was one table of people seated inside and table seated outside. So I asked if reservations were required and she said no, but they were definitely preferred. The problem was that I felt like I was being scolded for not having a reservation for an empty restaurant. The waiter was good and the food was just okay. Basically what you would expect from a restaurant at a resort out in the middle of no where. Average food, high price. So we didn't inconvenience the staff we had dinner at the Starlight Theater. The prices were still high but the atmosphere and food was much better. It's about a 20 minute drive from Lajitas. They also don't have WiFi in the rooms. At $299 a night that's simply wrong. I know you are supposed to be on vacation but in today's connected world WiFi is expected.

After three days we ran out of things to do so we left a day early. After morning activities you basically stay inside to stay cool during the afternoon.
