I think it is highly important to have a lawyer, but it needs to be a lawyer you admire and trust as a human being, in my judgment. It needs to be someone who is sensible, has sound judgment, and makes you want to tell everything you know in her or his ear. I want my lawyer to be smart and also self-knowing and also concerned about the values of equality, rule-of-law, freedom, and fairness. I want my lawyer to consider the details of my situation.
