Kyanna Review of Norfolk Sheriff Department

I have learned a few things about this office over time. I have gone down to the Norfolk City Jail a few times. The jail, the part that visitors are allowed in, is a filthy dirty mess with stains everywhere. The floor looks like at least 20 people with muddy boots trample it every single day. The filthy floor isn t so bad compared to the nasty smell. It smells like piss and spit at all times. I have not ever been to this place (and I ve been at least 15 times) where it was actually presentable and looked like a place ran by the government.
It isn t fair to mark all of the Sheriff's Deputies as unhelpful. There are a couple, and I do mean two, that I have spoken with that are extremely helpful but it seems like the general trend in the Norfolk Sheriff s office tends to be a sense of not knowing anything and being extremely unhelpful. Most of these people file paperwork all day and yet don t know anything about the processes that the inmates are going through. This isn t surprising seeing that the Norfolk Police Department doesn t seem to know anything about the whereabouts of inmates or why people are being arrested and meet you with just as much confusion and bewilderment as they come.
This office is extremely unorganized. They are always running around with backpacks but when you ask them a question they refer you to another person who refers you to another person who refers you to another person in an endless cycle that results in no questions answered and even more confusion than you began with. There are hardly ever agents available in the chat. Folks act like they re upset with their job when you call on the phone or simply do not answer.
What s curious about this entire thing is that these people are so quick to speed down the street and make a scene at your home over a person who has been incarcerated for weeks but will refuse to answer your questions as they come knocking down your door. I guess this is one of those places that believe that officers should do whatever. From my experiences I have deduced that this group of people don t care about anything but getting a check, walking back and forth in the dirty jail, drinking coffee and laughing.
I wish I did not feel this way but I wanted to let everyone know. Especially those of you who have had bad experiences. You are not alone. This place needs to change. I am very disappointed with this office.
Note: The officers in the visitation room are always helpful. You have better luck asking them something than literally anyone else. They seem to always know what s going on and are always proud to help. The rest of staff could learn a thing or two from them.
