I encountered a guard at the front who proceeded to raise his voice for bringing a water bottle inside a purse. It was in there for a medical condition. He talked aggressively as if we responded like we had any problem whatsoever to just check it in the coat check. No disrespect was given at all and it was so unnecessary and shocking. All he had to do was calmly explain to check it in. It honestly ruined the tone and enjoyment of the visit. I was walking around the museum on edge just waiting for the next guard to yell at another ridiculous offense like slightly stepping off the carpet by an inch or bending slightly to read a book. It's an all around uncomfortable unwelcoming experience. Do not take your frustrations out on people who want to patronize your museum; it's an art museum not "scared straight" in a prison. I've honestly never seen anything like this and I've been to many museums who provide protection for the art but also treat people decently. For $22 admission per person it's just inexcusable and disgusting to treat people like this.
