If you are ever in a position like we were in, PLEASE contact Habitat for Humanity to help you at this difficult time. EVERYONE I dealt with was professional - but not in a cold, impersonal way. They all seemed to appreciate and understand the depth of our loss and showed so much compassion. Habitat for Humanity would be my choice again in the future. When my mother suddenly passed away in June, we had some decisions which needed to be made quickly regarding her personal belongings. As my mom had always admired the work Habitat for Humanity does, it seemed a proper place to start. From my first tearful call, I was treated with the utmost respect, courtesy and compassion. My first contact was with Austin who, despite my many questions, tears and concerns answered every question (sometimes the same question over and over) and still did not become impatient or frustrated. As the pick up date grew closer, my calls were more frequent and Austin did everything possible to reassure me that all would go well. On the day of the pick up, two very pleasant young men - Ryan and James - came to my mother's home to view and take the furniture. They were both extremely understanding and compassionate and they both seemed to truly understand that this was not just old furniture being gotten rid of but the personal belongings that my mom worked so hard for. The pick up went very smoothly and the compassion shown yet again by Ryan and James meant so very much! My last contact was from another young man named Ryan (different one!) to inform me that mom's items had been passed along to a family in need and that this donation really did make a difference in someone's life! Once again, this young man was patient, compassionate and understanding! In summary, if you are looking for an organization with heart and compassion, Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga has it in abundance! Thank you so very much!
