One of the most fascinating castles that I've ever patronized. Despite its' name being the "Tower" of London, this gem is actually comprised of several different towers. It's hard to believe that this once served as a prison ward until 1952. The architecture is striking from the inside out. There are three separate wards, all of which hold their own separate towers and the White Tower being the most notable.
As you take your journey through the Towers, you'll get to witness what imprisonment was like and learn about Tower executions. I loved being able to walk up to the different towers and to see what the living conditions were like. You'll definitely be walking A LOT, so make sure that you are wearing comfortable shoes and clothing.
Perhaps the most coveted part of the Tower is seeing the Crown Jewels; the most powerful symbols of the British Monarchy. Some of the jewels include the royal crowns, swords, and rings amongst several other prized possessions. Pictures of the Crown Jewels are not permitted, and the lines to view them can be astronomical. However, no visit to the Tower can be complete without seeing these beauties in person. The way that they shine is unbelievable. You have to see it with your own two eyes.
Make no mistake; seeing the Crown Jewels IS the main reason to visit the Tower. And, a visit to the Tower of London is all worth while when visiting London.
