I was referred to Dr. Purcell from my endocrinologist for further testing related to suspected Cushing s disease. He focused on my hearing, despite me telling him I was not there for that and had an audiologist who was handling my hearing loss. He perseverated on it, however, and upon learning that my mother is implanted, proceeded to tell me that both her hearing loss and my own were not sensorineural but conductive, which is absolutely not true. He ordered an MRI, which ended up finding the pituitary tumor, however he didn t seem to be the one who reviewed the report because his assistant told him, right in front of me, that it didn t light up like a tumor and so he said we should just wait a year and then check it again. I asked if we could discuss other options because I didn t agree it was prudent to wait and watch, and he then told me I was too difficult to work with and needed to go elsewhere. I agreed I should go elsewhere and the neurosurgeon I went to for a second opinion immediately said the opposite of everything Dr. Purcell said, ordered a bunch of bloodwork, and immediately saw that it was, in fact, Cushing s disease and is now setting up surgery. Glad I didn t go with what Purcell said! Oh and his staff is NOT for the deaf/hearing impaired; his receptionists are usually talking to you with rapid speech, high pitched voices, turned backs/faces so you can t lip read, and both times I was there, the one that offered to help me was eating so she kept trying to hide behind her computer so she could talk to me with her mouth full. I had to ask her to finish chewing, swallow, and refrain from taking another bite until she was done dealing with me.
