Says dog friendly but we were made to feel unwelcome when we popped in for a pint. Needless to say we didn't stay for food.

Excellent selection of ales and the food was marvellous. Highly recommended.
Great food. Staff very friendly & efficient. Not only good hearty portion size, everything was beautifully cooked & presented - delicious! Puddings were also excellent although we couldn't finish them all - too full! Good value for money in comfortable surroundings.
Went here expecting a nice meal. Instead we sat and waited while other tables were being served that came in after us and the waitress seemed totally oblivious to our prescence. We must have had invisibility cloaks on. After 20 mins we got up and left. Disappointing as looked like a good place for ...
Absolutely lovely food served fast and staff very friendly
Really worth a visit. Great food and drink. Nice owners.
Dog friendly and a great friendly atmosphere with delicious food
Dog friendly which is always a bonus. Friendly staff. Good food. Worth a visit.
Nom .. Great food great beer and good service to boot. In fact what's not to like ? Best if you book because it gets busy on a Saturday night.
Great food and portions, reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere what more could you want?!
Varied menu of pub food. Reasonable prices. Tea and coffee served. Plenty of parking space across the road in public car park.
Lovely wee pub, had the Sunday roast and it was delicious, would highly recommend, helped that they were dog friendly as we are camping and not everywhere let's dogs in
Extremely poor, very rude staff it's definitely not dog friendly the small bar at the front is for dogs but is too small if there are more than 3 or 4 people. Special mention to the blonde woman who served us if you don't like your job or working Sundays don't take it out on people coming for a drin...
Absolutely fantastic. Have been a couple of times now and it s great. Food is lovely and the beer selection is top notch.
A fantastic pub with a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. it is obvious to any diner that they really care about the hearty staples that they serve. The menu has enough variety for anyone and on top of that there's craft and cask beers and small batch gins. When you get comfortable in this vibrant but rel...
Fantastic pub with great food especially recommend the Lasagne.
Very nice food and drink, cosy by the fire, a lovely start to the New Year.
Great staff, fantastic food, good prices and lovely atmosphere. What more could you ask for?
Lovely place. Nice relaxing atmosphere. Very friendly staff. Beautiful food. Highly recommended.
Great service. Great beer. Great food.
A great proper traditional English pub.
After a lovely meal last year, we returned this year. The pub is well laid out for social distancing, booking, being taken to our table and ordering was very good. There seems to be a restricted menu, no steak which is what I was looking More
They were absolutely rammed but managed to fit us in. A superb stop for a Sunday lunch. Very polite staff with speedy service. And nice golden ale.
Really enjoyed our Sunday lunches and kids loved it too
love the food here. kid friendly and the menu is a lovely change from the usual burger one finds on a lot of menus now
Warm and comfortable. Well furnished and clean. Cosy traditional pub atmosphere
"A Bitter End" - Shame! Looked like a nice place but alas I was the Invisible Man! Waited a considerable time for someone to take a food order but it didn't happen . Can't comment on anything as a result, then this Invisible Man +1 departed as invisibly as we arrived
Visited friends over the weekend and had the pleasure of having two meals in one day in this great little Pub, Had Sunday roast Beef for lunch, which was just perfect, the beef melted in your mouth, then back in the Evening for a Bitter End Burger, which was great too. The Elvis Juice IPA they sell ...
Lovely food. Great service. We all enjoyed our food in lovely surroundings
We had the chicken and leak pie, mushroom, broccoli and blue cheese pasta and the chicken breast with mushroom sauce. Everything was really tasty. Good honest food, well priced.
We had a great night doing the trivia quiz, everyone was friendly we had dinner here which was also very good, we stayed in a fantastic cottage in Allonby owned by Sandra and Andrew called Gulls Hatch.
Excellent value for money....home made burgers are gorgeous
As always great food. But like last visit the staff are miserable and a bit rude. I do not see why they need to have a poor attitude, but we left with a bitter end to the evening.
Lovely atmospheric old pub with excellent real ales and superb food. Cosy ambiance.
We popped in here for tea today on a whim on the last day of our holidays . The food was really nice, the hospitality staff were friendly and helpful. I have bookmarked this pub incase we return to the lake District
Lovely place! Food was excellent, staff were great and they let us bring the dog
We visited this pub and certainly enjoyed our Sunday Roast Beef, the service was excellent, and the staff are friendly, also the beer, highly recommended.
Great!!! Food was very good and very nice and cosy atmosphere. Totally recommended!!! Roast on Sundays is a must to try :)
Just enjoyed a couple of days away in Cockermouth. Really great food and a good selection of drinks in a lovely dog friendly pub. Plus really friendly staff! We visited this twice for our tea. Thank you!
Always a pleasure and friendly service.
Food is super all topped off with a real ale of your taste.
This is a really nice 'proper' pub, with a decent selection of 'proper beer' as well as the craft stuff. Relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff. Not eaten here yet, but the food looks and smells great. Best pub I've been to in Cockermouth.
A great pub great beer, perfect covid precautions. I would book if going at "popular" times, did I mention the beer was great?
Great food, great atmosphere, top quality drinks too, a fantastic selection of gin and top quality ales, including a goodly selection of Brewdog. Never had a bad meal, always have great difficulty in choosing what to eat. Would recommend a visit to anyone wanting a good honest filling plate of foo...
Did a good job accommodating us and food was good. Dog friendly in the front so make sure u tell them u have a dog when u book
Nice pub! Dog friendly, good atmosphere & tasty food.
Great little pub and looks like it serves good food
Used to attend Tuesday evening Quiz nights here (loosely starts at 9pm). Beer was always well kept. Highlight of quiz was landlady's unusual and therefore comical mispronunciation of words. Worth it for this alone.
Stopped by after a walk in the local hills, the food was amazing and reasonably priced
great food and beer enjoyed quiz night on a Tuesday
Quick service, and polite staff in a cosy atmosphere
Amazing food. Cosy atmosphere. Excellent range of beers and gins.
This review is after 4 random visits. A busy pub for good food and a wide range of drinks. Sadly the staff are often far too busy to smile, be polite or even have manors towards each other or towards their clients for that matter. Unfortunately perpetually unhappy looking bar staff shouting at each-...
Decent pub grub. Had the deep fried brie starter and was really nice.
Did an ok table service but unfortunately didn't track and trace
Fab food, best chips ever tasted, a good variety of local cask beers.
Absolutely stunning place , food and service was great too. Will be going back soon.
Most cost pub so far. Great food. Great atmosphere and staff
service as good as always, reduced menu but great quality food
Great family pub with good selection of beers and ales, food is cooked fresh i can particularly recommend the Boston beef!
Lovely Sunday lunch. In friendly and pleasant surroundings. Would definately return for any meal as the main menu appeared so appetizing too.
Absolutely lovely food , lovely staff will be returning without a dought.
Lovely food and service, local beers. Cosy with a wood burning fire. Excellent beer batter on the brie!
Top pub named after the location, not the ale. Great selection of bottled beers and cosy seating. Worth seeking out.
Food was very nice, friendly staff who managed to accommodate us though they were quite busy
Lovely food even catered for our greyhounds fab customer service
