We (2 adults required) took Troop 92 in 1995 & Y2K (got the 2k ghost patch) and I would advise a minimum one year training (physical & skills) for your first class or greater ranking scouts in the crew(s) because it is REAL... and NOT a video game!!!! The rangers will leave you deep in country lat...

Called.Disneyland for hikers there is a lot to see here. While you can't go into the back country, you can tour the Villa Philmont built by Waite Phillips in the 1920s before he donated the land to the Boy Scouts and visit the Rayado camp that was a homestead and stop along the Santa Fe trail. Then ...

But most importantly scouts and advisors learn that when one digs deep within & applies one's self they can accomplish ...

When I first thought of going to Philmont I didn't think I would like the place. Hot, dry and didn't think I would like the place. Boy! was I wrong about that. I said to myself at the very end that I need another week of it. It was so great I am planning on going next year again. Thanks Philmont sta...

I visited Philmont in 1967 as a kid to drop off a friend. I posted that pic. Little did I know I would go back in 2017 and have the best time of my life hiking there as a Scoutmaster with my son and crew. It really is the happiest place on earth. I highly recommend going there.

I wanted to see what has since I was there for back packing trips of ten days each in 1976 and 1977 . Amazed at the changes and improvements . Had lots of memories brought back about the two times that I was hiking at the ranch. 2 Thumbs up .

Amazing wildlife, even at basecamp. Saw plenty of rabits, turkey, and deer. Food at base camp is pretty watered down; at least for trailbound crews. Verizon usually gets 3G at base camp and elsewhere. Must do: Climb the Tooth of Time.
Urraca's campfire is very good.

I want to go back to Philmont...

Philmont was probably one of, if not, the greatest experiences in my scouting career and life. I went to Philmont with my troop and little brother the summer of 2015, and I will never forgot the amazing time I had. The staff, including my Ranger Ricky Nick, were some of the coolest and friendliest I...

The programs and workers here are great. I've done two treks as both a scout and a leader, and I loved it each time. There are many options in trek length and programs, as well as difficulty options and information to help choose the trek that is best for your group.
