View of "Cock's Footbridge" @ Historic Spanish Point. My 1st visit & we have lived in Sarasota for 19 yrs. Positively beautiful! We WILL "bee" back! Check out the honey in the gift shop too! Simply DELICIOUS! Did I say: "dog friendly" too? Positive Vibes in EVERY way!
One of our favorite places to visit every time we are in Florida. We are New Englanders by choice because of all the history we are imersesed in here. This place offers us an interesting experience with a lovely afternoon walk.
Where else in the US can one find 5000 years of history in its original site on a lovely bay with a sea breeze, operated by a private conservation growth dedicated to saving both history and nature? Where else did a model -T owner use an ancient shell midden to dig a garage, later studied and preser...
Very interesting place. Thirty acres of history from the native Americans of several thousand years ago to the early 20th century. Nice self guided hike with several buildings from early in the 20th century, including parts of the Palmer estate and gardens. The whole point was pretty much created...
It didn't take me long to realize that I wouldn't have enjoyed this experience nearly as much had I not taken the golf-cart-guided tour. I can see how someone coming here and walking on their own would get confused and not absorb much of the history this site has to offer. Our guide gave us a very...
I am in LOVE with the smallness of this petite little library....I have options to go to Gulf Gate or Venice, as I live right in between, but even though this one is "less of everything" than the other bigger more updated ones....I PREFER taking myself and my two kids there.....so much nicer....in s...
Love history? This is for you. You will feel like you are actually stepping back in time. Something many of us truly appreciate. Dress appropriately for the weather. I suggest carrying an umbrella. When you stop at the main house for tickets, be sure to get a map. There are a variety of paths and it...
Nicely groomed trails as you walk through gardens, along side the water for pleasant views and water breezes. An interesting trip for those who enjoy historical sites.
We didn't take a guided tour and several of the houses were not opened for viewing. Also be aware there is a decent amount of w...
Painstakingly restored former property of the Palmer family, includes cottages and gardens and tells the history of early Florida and Sarasota county. Well worth a visit.
Very good .. the place is beautiful .. and very well looked after .. the very helpful and knowledgeable reception staff and guide .. we can see that the story of Ms. Bertha Palmer shows us that the woman in 1891 had a lot more power than today's women .. were strong, resolute, broke all barriers wit...
If your wondering about Spanish Point and is it worth it to go..GO!! We had a wonderful time and our tour guide Gail was great. There is walking involved, so wear comfortable walking shoes and bring some water. The tour is very informative, the grounds are beautiful and just the history of the place...
Must give special thanks to Bruce, who went out of his way to accommodate our group, one of whom could not begin to walk the grounds. Being from out of state and the USA, we did not know of the necessity of tram reservations, and without Bruce would not have been able to enjoy so the experience. He ...
Beautiful place with great staff. Well kept and preserved, and lots of history there to see, among other things. UPDATE: I NO LONGER SUPPORT THIS ORGANIZATION. THEY TOOK OVER HISTORIC SPANISH POINT AND WONT ALLOW DOGS NOW!
Wonderful outdoor setting. Few docents so most people will have a self guided walking tour using map handout. Not especially wheelchair friendly because several exhibits are only accessible via crushed shell paths. Amazing history going all the way back to 3000 BC
Enjoyed our guided tour via 7 seat golf cart. Costs about $5 extra and was worth it to get a lot more info about the area than just reading signs. Most, if not all of the buildings have been remodeled based on historic records instead of 1960s era color schemes etc. The tour takes about 2 hours, b...
I have lived here for 3 years and finally had the chance to visit. I took my granddaughters here for The Fairy and Gnome Festival and wow, did they do a fantastic job of turning the point into a special fairyland, but I am definitely returning to explore all this historic site has to offer. The flor...
