We had a good experience with Boston Solar - fantastic team and happy overall with the installation process. Few points for feedback: 1) Location of the meter install was limited for our home but we only knew that we really have only one option on the day of installation. Wish this consultation can be done ahead of installation day. 2) SMART rebate block incentive price changed after signing the contract. Although it is not in Boston Solar's hands, a conservative prediction/estimate would have been better before signing the contract (as opposed to the current block). We worked with Mark Milton, Mali Cooper, Scott Webster, and Tom Sheridan. They all were very professional and a delight to work with! Thank you!

Boston Solar has been extremely helpful in designing and installing our solar system. They clearly explained the advantages of solar power and all the financial details, including cost, tax incentives, utility incentives, etc. They ultimately installed 31 solar panels. It's a lot of fun to monitor the system. The Enlighten app allows us to monitor our system on any computer, laptop, tablet, or phone, from anywhere in the world. The installers were very polite and worked very hard to get the system installed in a day. My only recommendation is that you have patience. It takes a while to get through all the steps required for all of the approvals, etc. before you system starts producing power.

Boston Solar proved to be a fantastic organization with fantastic people. Having experience with companies that provide field work, I understand the difficulties of putting the right people in customer facing roles. Every single person I worked with was A+ and if they didn't have an answer, they found it for me promptly. My system has been online for a couple weeks now and I'm floored by how seamless the transition was. Once we threw the lever, the meter started running backwards and we started feeding the grid. In general with regard to home solar power: I consider it like buying a car instead of leasing cars for your entire life. When you pay off a car, you ride for free. When you pay off your solar panels, you run the house for free. Paying electric bills is something you'll do your entire life. Solar gives you a chance to pay yourself instead . MA SRECs pay your loan payments and your balance sheet zeros out on a yearly basis. If your house gets good sun exposure, its a no brainer. Boston Solar = highly recommended! They gave fair and detailed estimates and did super-quality work. Cheers to them and everyone they work with.

System up and running today.. Woohooo! The process went pretty smooth. Had our initial consultant in February and we had expected the project to be completed in July but due to many projects being postponed/canceled, Boston Solar was able complete our project much earlier. We kept our distances as the crew worked non-stop to complete the installation in one day. A little snag with the electrical work after the crew left because a couple of the appliances stopped working but after communication with Boston Solar, the electrical crew came and resolve it the same day. Boston Solar worked well with Solarize Needham, a local affiliation aimed at increasing green energy in residential use. They did a great job with all the incentives and rebates, and the loan company. All in all they made it pretty easy for something actually has a lot of moving parts to put the package together. I can see my energy produced on a website for that, and its exciting to see how much is being generated, how much we are using and how much goes back onto the grid. The installation is perfect and we're hoping it continues to be good, as it is definitely a long term relationship with the solar company going forward. It was slow getting it going with the pandemic but they got it done and now we're looking forward to generating our own electricity for the first time ever.
The entire experience was pleasant! From Mark C. As our salesman to the consultant after install. The staff was so responsive and knowledgeable. We ran into a few bumps with National Grid (not Boston Solar s fault) and they kept me apprised of all the glitches and holdups and got in touch with them several times to rectify the situation. The whole process from start to finish was in a word, painless. From discussing the rebate structures and design with sales, to working with the installation team on the ground and the tight knit partnership with the customer experience management, you never felt out of the loop for taken for a ride. The panels went up quickly and they look great. The installation team was very respectful of the property and highly dedicated to the quality of their craft. I would (and will) recommend Boston Solar anytime someone utters the word "Solar" around me. If and when I decide to put up another row of panels and/or install solar battery backup I will be calling Boston Solar back out again.
Great experience all around! From the initial planning, to the project implementation, to the system activation, all stages where handled thoroughly and professionally. At no point did I ever feel things were off track. Great detail was put into the planning and execution of the project and it showed in the end. Quality of work is great and the system was installed in about 2 days! Timely and detailed notifications by the project manager kept things on track and kept me informed throughout the entire process. Have been online now for several weeks and couldn't be happier! The workmen came to install a new electrical panel and two new Mini Splits. They worked well as a TEAM and where courtious to me. They left my home in good condition.

Boston Solar (BS) is a unique company providing a solar PV solution that falls between a small company offering and the large national companies. They provide a simple and streamlined business engagement model backed by a professional staff employing orderly and easily followed processes to manage the engineering, permitting and installation tasks. The contracts I signed was less than 6 or 7 pages and written in non-legal jargon that provide fair and reasonable terms for both parties. The product is sourced from known industry suppliers with proven technology that offer the best industry warranties. BS staff provide top notch services. They move quickly, provide consistent communications and are open to explain each step in detail. I would rate the planning, work effort, attention to detail and follow-up again as top notch starting with the sale rep, followed by the project coordinator and installers. Of the other 4 companies I spoke with, BS was the only company that made me feel comfortable investing in the ownership of solar PV through them.
I am a consultant that was hired by a local business owner to determine if solar was feasible. This organization refused to provide us with an estimate and only wanted to speak with the owner. I have a hard time recommending a company that asks to provide sales information however does not want that information verified by a third and non-biased party such as a retained consultant. This makes me feel suspicious and unfortunately we wasted time speaking with this organization.

From the initial overview with the representative doing a site visit, to the representative guiding me through the whole process week-to-week, they are very professional and knowledgeable. After contemplating solar for years I finally made the plunge and had a system installed this spring. After speaking with several companies, I elected to go with Boston Solar and could not be happier with my choice. Bill was absolutely fantastic. He spent hours with me reviewing our home''s energy needs, not only explaining the benefits of solar but other ways we could reduce our power usage to further save on our electricity costs. The install was a breeze. The gentlemen were professional, showed up each day on time (really appreciated with my work and kid''s schedules!) and they did a great job cleaning up the yard afterwards. After install, Tom Sheridan spent more than an hour reviewing the system''s components, warrantees, SREC plan and getting us online. I can also comment on post install service as one of the panels was not producing power after activation. Boston Solar discovered this at the time of Tom''s visit and sent a service tech out within 48 hours to rectify the issue. Tremendous! The system has been up and running for a month now and we couldn''t be more pleased with our choice to have Boston Solar help us transition to solar power.

My experience with Boston Solar was very positive. The salesman, installers, and coordinators were professional and knowledgeable. All answered questions timely, handled all the permits and MA SMART paperwork, and workers always showed for scheduled appointments on time. Most important, the system on my roof works. I would have rated 5 stars except for the lack of communication that occurred between project segments. To be fair, my first project coordinator left the company in the middle of the project and COVID-19 most certainly played a roll too. If I ever need another system, I would certainly call Boston Solar.

From the initial two days it took to install the system to it being taken off of standby was only 7 weeks and that included the holiday week of July 4th plus dealing with some unique building code requirements my town has. Scheduling was a breeze. The project manager is very communicative and made sure to contact us as soon as an opening was available. The installation work took two full days from start to finish, which we had to schedule across two weeks. Both times the installation crew arrived right on time, as promised, which allowed me to stick to my own schedule. All the team members I met were courteous, considerate, helpful, and kept things clean. The foreman explained everything in a clear manner and made sure that we knew what to expect next. The project manager followed up the next business day, and now we seem to be on track with the last step in the installation process.

I recently had panels installed on my home. The company did a great job of explaining the process, which is quite complicated dealing with the town, the utility company etc, and managing it all. Only concern is that I was told installation would take one day and it took two. Other than that everything took place without a problem.

About five months ago I contacted Boston Solar because I knew we could do so much better in terms of reducing our energy costs and environmental impact. Greg N. came out and met with us, assessed our needs, and got us started with a referral to the Mass Saves program. Once we'd had our audit and gotten free LED lightbulbs, shower heads, power strips, etc., Boston Solar came back out and insulated the first and second floors of our 1935 Colonial. The insulation crew did an excellent job and ended up charging me far less than I expected. (After the $2000 direct credit from Mass Saves, we ended up paying only $600.) Boston Solar handled all the paperwork. At the same time we continued to work with Greg N. on a solar system. Yesterday, Boston Solar came out and installed a 6.0 kW solar system. Solar Crew #6 was timely, thorough, professional, and the system looks awesome. We anticipate that it will reduce our electric bill to $0. Throughout this effort, Boston Solar has been awesome to work with. Highly recommended!
We are happy with the Boston Solar work. The installation was on time, very efficient, and within the time framework provided by the BS representative. The critter guards took some time to arrive but still within reason. The communication with the BS was mostly timely. The COVID-19 situation slowed things somewhat but again, within reason. Thus far, the system works very well. Overall, we are happy with the choice we have made.

Boston Solar installed our panels in early August. Most of the process was very easy- especially setting up initial contract with John- he was great! I do feel the process to get the solar panels turned on was a bit dragged out, but I believe a lot of that was out of Boston Solar's hands. Overall, communication from Boston Solar was very good and we were aware of what was going on and potential delays.
I heavily researched solar companies for over a month and finally landed on Boston Solar. I chose them based on their positive reviews and reputation in the industry, not price. Their representative Dan, was always prompt for appointments and he answered every question with extreme detail. He also followed up exactly when he said he would. I spoke to three other companies that weren t as forthcoming with questions about materials, warranties, and workmanship. Those other three companies also competed solely on price (assuming I d go with the lowest) and their designs probably wouldn t have covered my energy usage. As I asked those reps more and more questions they stopped communicating with me altogether. Boston Solar was the highest of the 4 quotes I received but I could easily tell the materials they use were better quality after researching. The entire process was lengthy but it was clearly communicated from the beginning. Average time from contract signing to system generation is 90 days. Mine took 97 days. They provide a project manager to communicate with you during every stage of the process from permitting to installation to inspections. Meghan was awesome and I felt taken care of during the whole process. Installation was handled all in house which made me more comfortable than the job being sub contracted out. The install crew was on time, thorough, clean, and finished the same day. The quality of their work is evident because they paid attention to small details that other solar projects clearly do not in regards to aesthetics. It s important to adequately research multiple companies and be an informed buyer before making your decision. Boston solar gets 5 stars from me.

Although, the process was held up by getting permits through our town, that is not within the powers of Boston Solar to expedite. We started to look at Solar, just as a curiosity. Boston Solar (John) came by and was very easy going and told us the good and bad about solar (there isn't any bad in my opinion). When I heard that National Grid was raising rates 30%+ this year, I knew I had to do something about my energy needs. I knew that my house was a great candidate for solar I started looking into options. I found many different companies, some local and some in California. I also needed to decide if I was going to lease or buy. The answer to that question is: BUY, BUY, BUY! With the 0% down financing options, tax credits/rebates, and SREC credits, it is a no-brainer. I decided to go with a local company for two reasons; servicing the system if needed and helping out a local business. With that decision made, I started looking into Massachusetts companies. Brian Cassidy from Boston Solar called me and answered all my questions. He was very knowlegable and actually let me know about other rebates that no one else told me about. He continued to answer the myriad of question I kept coming up with over the next month. After speaking with other companies (8 total) and reading countless reviews, I decided on Boston Solar. I felt the most comfortable and felt that they were offering the best system with the highest quality components for the money. I also felt that they would be the easiest to get back to my house if I had a problem and needed warranty work. That's important to me, because I feel that many companies "forget" about you after the install. Brian came out after work (7:30) to sign the papers to get everything going. They took care of all the permitting required (building, interconnection, rebates, etc) which is more than you might think. I wanted the biggest system that would fit on my roof. With the way the credits and rebates work out, it all balances out in the end and you save more on your bill. Boston Solar designed a 6.7kW system of 24 280w panels. I have about 8" on all the sides so it fits very nicely (see pictures.) It took about 2 months from the start until the install. The crew (2 roofers, 2 electricians) finally came out on 12/8 for the install. It was 20 degrees all day, but they toughed it out and got the job done. I didn't actually see the finished product until the weekend. It was dark when they finished and I leave and come home when it's dark. When I finally saw it, I was very pleased. All the seams are very straight and centered. The system was inspected by the town and the inspector said that Boston Solar did a "very nice job." Now I just have to wait for National Grid to install a bi-directional" meter and then the system can be put on-line. I already downloaded the app to monitor the system. I am really excited to start saving money.
Boston Solar did a great installation this week of my solar array. Boston Solar s Team 4 arrived on time. They set up to start work very quickly and before proceeding , introduced themselves to us. They told us what to expect and answered all our questions before starting. The total installation was done in one 8 hour day. Before they left , they went through how everything works and showed my wife and I our electric meter actually runs backwards when the array is producing electricity. I was impressed with the attitude and their cleanliness and work ethics. They were very professional. The support staff at Boston Solar is excellent. It can be a daunting process with all the paperwork and permits and dealing with our electricity provider but the Boston Solar team handled all of that...it was great! The installers were also a great team to work, they were very neat and organized and overall the whole project went very well. Thought I might add that the solar array looks "polished" and kind of sleek! Thank you!!

I usually do not write reviews but I wanted to say that I am extremely pleased with Boston Solar. They truly are a great company and live up to their reputation. From the planning all the way to the installation all members that I have come in contact with were friendly, honest and very attentive to my questions and concerns. In addition to that it was great having them coordinate all the logistics with scheduling, permits, etc. The whole process didn't eat into my busy schedule and all appointments were at times that worked best for me. We kicked off the project in September and the panels were operational mid December...Keeping true their 90 day installation window. This was important and a concern of mine since I wanted to take advantage of the tax credits for the 2017 calendar year. They were very mindful of this and we got it done with time to spare! The 14Kw system has been live for about a week now and producing as expected even with short winter days . All in all - Extremely pleased. If you are considering solar definitely give them a call, they have been great!

I can t say enough about Boston Solar. Other than getting the paper work done with the bank for the financing, they took care of EVERYTHING FOR ME. It was so hassle free. Mali is the representative I dealt with through out the entire process and she made it painless to go solar. Gave me step by step updates through out, answered any questions I had immediately, and told me how to get rebates from their company without hesitation like 2x $500 dollar amazon gift cards, $750 rebate check, etc. I shopped around for the right company to install solar at my place and it was an easy decision to go with them. Go Boston Solar... you won t regret it.
Boston Solar did an awesome job from the very beginning to the end. I highly recommend this company to take care of your solar needs. Tom s presentation was very clear to understand and was there to answer the all of my questions. The project took a little over 3 months, but would have been faster if the weather had cooperated better, but obviously that was out of Boston Solar's control . The actual installation was seamless and Mark and team happily answered all my questions. From a customer service perspective, once we got started Mali was fantastic. She was on top of all the details, did a great job helping understand what was going on and what to expect as next steps. They have so far followed through on all the incentives that were promised. I m still waiting for my first bill, but so far it looks like the system is producing. We took the time to compare solar companies and I can t be happier with going with Boston Solar.

Like many people, the appeal of making energy was a great draw and what we needed to know was how this worked overall such that even if it was cost neutral, it was what we expected. We found that it ALL was what we expected, and beyond. From Sales, to Site Evaluation, to Proposal, to Financing, to Installation, to Activation, Boston Solar did an exceptional job throughout the whole process. Very informative, professional, across all persons in their company. They have excellent experience with the equipment and solar technologies, as well as great connections with all needed contractors to help aide the project along fully. For those considering solar energy, I will tell you my take which is that there are exactly two things: Net Zero, and Clean Energy Credits. Net Zero is how Boston Solar, and any company should design a homeowner's system. It makes most of the energy during the sunny months, your meter runs backward and you get $$ credits to your electric bill, then during the Winter (New England) you take away those credits and get back to zero, thus you are designed to have no electric bill for the entire year. Clean Energy Credits is because the electric company is required to have a certain amount of clean energy they provide (i.e. from solar or wind customers), and you get credits for producing this. That's a financial benefit to you. Summary: - You pay for your system, but you own it. You also get tax credits for some of the amount you've paid for the system. - You are covered for at least 20 years, the inverters last 10 and the contract stipulates that Boston Solar will replace those inverters after the 10 years. The solar panels last far longer, like 25+ years. - You pay no electric bill. - You get clean energy credits in the form of payments. NOTE: Some solar companies try to retain these credits and don't assign them to you, or have you sign away your rights to them. Watch out for that. Boston Solar does not do this. Any solar company tells you stuff that sounds too good to be true, stay away from them. Boston Solar will tell you truth and they also will tell you if your location/site is not good for solar. Such as if you are facing a high hill which obstructs too much sun, etc. They will not sell you a system which cannot fulfill the net zero goal, or one that will cost you too much and not give you enough energy production. We had a large number of unusual impairments for our installation, unusually bad weather, a very unusual event occurrence in our home, and a difficult interface with town inspectors due to the remoteness of our residence. Boston Solar was highly professional and helpful, as well as greatly accommodating throughout this entire process. We always knew we would be very pleased with the final outcome, and we definitely are!
Highly recommend. Great company, they worked with me to explain and answer any of my questions. Also their customer service is great, generally very punctual email replies. John the sales rep I spoke with was awesome, very friendly and informative and patient. Also Sana my point of contact was also fantastic, she was able to answer my questions and even called a couple roofers on my behalf to inquire about roofing warranties with panel installs. The install and electrician crews they had were professional, friendly and did their work very quickly. Had a couple of scheduling issues, once due to weather/day after the super bowl, but installers still finished the job that week. Then second issue was a miscommunication with solar rep for building inspector walk through, needed to be rescheduled, they apologized and worked on rescheduling. Everyone I spoke with or worked with was great. Overall though very happy with the company and so far everything seems to be going how they said it would.
This is the first time we used Boston Solar. The sales rep Wayne Sutherland was very patient with all of my questions and concerns. We were referred by another Boston Solar customer but My husband still did his own research. After looking at about 10 different solar estimates, we found Boston Solar to be the best option. He was on board immediately and it took me a little longer to be comfortable with having Solar installed on our roof. They did an extremely thorough job during their site visit to determine the maximum number of panels we could have that would generate the highest production. They offered a variety of payment options (although we paid cash) that were reasonable. The paperwork process was smooth and they were always available for questions. Our house was not ideal for Solar but they came up with a design that will not only work but was aesthetically good for me. The installation process was equally as smooth. They communicated with us every step of the way and answered any questions we had. The crew was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They were on time, cleaned up after themselves, and made sure we knew what they were doing each day. Our rep at Boston Solar-Sana Jameel has been extremely helpful and also very patient with all of my questions. Overall, we had an amazing client service coordinator in Sana. She kept us informed throughout the entire process. Responded to both emails and phone calls promptly and always got back to us when she said she would. And also calling or emailing as things unfolded without me even asking. I highly recommend Boston Solar and although I don't expect to move anytime soon, I do expect when I do I will call Boston Solar.

From day we signed contract to turn up date the whole process was seamless. It did take longer than I expected due to end of year rush and building permits and inspection delays. Our rep was very responsive and answered any question we had within a very reasonable time. She kept us fully updated throughout the whole process. Installation of solar panels and electrical work was done in less than 2 days. The whole process took 2 months. From sales to turn up everyone involved was very professional. Excellent local business.
I highly recommend Boston Solar. Everyone I interacted with from the start of the sales process through activation was highly professional, detail oriented and friendly. The process takes a while, but the Boston Solar team led the effort throughout the process, kept me apprised of the progress and clearly explained any actions I needed to take. The attention to detail of the installation team was also outstanding. Other than seeing the panels on the roof, you would never know they were there. They did not disrupt any of the yard and thoroughly cleaned up the areas they did work in both inside and outside the house. If you are looking for Solar, Boston Solar is the firm you want to hire. I can not say enough for how positive the experience was...

Had my system installed two years ago, and this company just impresses me more and more all the time. What a fantastic team! I have had to reach back out to them a few times since the system went live for various monitoring/reporting questions, and they respond right away, never hesitate to send a crew out to take a look, and if there is an actual problem they resolve it immediately. They even came out twice, free of charge, to remove and then reinstall the inverter when I had my house re-sided. They are not just one of the best, if not THE best, solar company out there, but I think they may be one of the best COMPANIES, period. I've never experienced such care and attention to making sure I was fully informed at every step of the purchase and installation process, and that any and all problems were completely and thoroughly resolved, if not the same day, by the very next day. Projects of this size can rarely be executed perfectly - there is almost always a hiccup or two. But the best companies care deeply about their customers' satisfaction and take full ownership of any issues that come up, then work diligently and quickly to resolve them with as little disruption as possible to the project and the customer. This describes Boston Solar perfectly. Not only do they offer an excellent product and a compelling financial case (even to clients with a less-than-perfect site in terms of roof angle/slope, partial shading, etc), but they are really just a great group of professionals that is 100% focused on doing right by their customers. You will not regret going with Boston Solar.
My experience with Boston Solar has been one of the best with any company. They are organized, approachable, thorough and professional. Getting solar panels can be very overwhelming, but Boston Solar stays with you every step of the way. If you find yourself confused about going solar, I would give them a call - they are excellent at laying out your options in a way that clearly shows how much you ll be benefiting. I especially liked the paperwork that they provided; it lays out the cost, any applicable rebates, your projected solar output, and what you ll gain over the long term - all on one easy to understand page. John Sacco was the sales rep who came to my house. He was the perfect mix of professional and approachable. I probably threw thirty questions at him and he fielded them all with ease. Mali Cooper took over as my project manager and she was just as knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. She has also been extremely responsive when I call or email. I never had to worry that she wouldn t get back to me quickly. John, Mali, the two electricians (David and David) and the techs who put the panels on the roof are all strong assets to the company. I would not hestitate to recommend Boston Solar.
We had a neighbor refer us to to Boston Solar shortly after they completed a project on our neighbor's home. This neighbor had done a lot of research before selecting a company to install solar panels and we trusted his opinion and soon reached out to have Boston Solar evaluate our home for solar. From our first meeting with Tom Chabot to our final walk through with Tom Sheridan, our experience with Boston Solar was exceptional. Tom Chabot was personable and answered many of our initial questions, explained the entire evaluation and installation process to us, and handled our initial round of paperwork. Sana Jameel was our project coordinator; she handled ALL of the details and communication between ourselves and the many entities involved in the project from the design, finance, permitting, installation, inspections, and cooperation from the utility company. Sana was invaluable! The installation was nearly a nearly painless process and the one minor issue we had with installation was remedied within hours of the crew arriving on the final day. Overall, we would highly recommend Boston Solar to anyone considering "going solar"! We have only been online for a little over a month (during the shortest period of daylight all year) so we have yet to see a drastic difference in our electric bill, but we are excited to see what happens over the coming months as the days grow longer.
This Company was phenomenal from the get go - very helpful and never pushy - Todd spent so much time explaining what happens from the beginning until the end never rushed any meetings, answered all questions, and we had a lot. Even when we dragged our feet they worked it out so that we would not lose any of the benefits that we were offered. The Crew that installed was also wonderful -they were very respectful of our home and property, always pleasant and eager to answer any questions. I feel like I know so much more now and made a wonderful decision. The connection went very smoothly and quicker than I thought it would take. This was our first day and we only used 4 KWH - we use a lot of electricity as we do not have gas options on our street...It was so cool to watch the numbers go backwards as the day went on. When I asked them if they could be a little early so I could make a meeting at work they said no problem. So again thanks for a job well done.
We recently chose Boston Solar for our home. We knew we wanted to buy vs. lease, and found them during our extensive research. We chose them based on their no-fluff fact-packed website, rave reviews from others, and veteran status of solar installs in the Boston/greater Boston area. From the very start, our sales rep Tom Chabot was friendly, on time, knowledgeable, and not pushy. We were happy to find our price quote was within our expectations, and that the production capabilities of our small roof was better than expected. The whole team was incredibly helpful and patient while we worked out financing & timing, etc. The install team was very professional, tidy, and careful to not damage our deck, and our customer service rep Meghan McNamara was always reachable with any questions we had & really helped guide us through the sometimes complicated process of getting a loan/signing documents/getting set up for solar rebates. Boston Solar made it easier for us to make the switch to renewable energy. This was a very important decision for our family & we feel confident we made the right choice. Thank you guys!
Great experience. Top notch communications, installation. I had a 39 panel residential solar system installed, they provided guidance and options all along the way. Contract signed in mid summer, engineering and installation followed, system energized on 11/6/17. I highly recommend them for their people and their process.
