Food was decent. Bartenders didnt seem very friendly
Incredible Cuisine, incredible service. Check out the rooftop bar before your reservation. This is a real gem on King Street.
Great ambiance and location. Food was just okay. We had a large party and most of their steaks were too rare, so they didn't enjoy it. I hear the rooftop bar is awesome, but we didn't go out there when we visited.
Good food; good service; bar scene after 7PM, so it's a bit noisy.
Great atmosphere. Very adult bar with an amazing view and friendly staff
Huge bar with lots of different areas for what ever you re looking for, with great views
Went here for brunch, food was pretty good, lots of options, loved the tomato salad, and Oreo desert. Just wish they had options for people who don't eat pork (the did cook us a steak with was very nice but still would have loved a chicken/turkey option) also no gluten free option for deserts.
Great venue, great night scene, quality dining during the day
We came in with a bachelorette party and had SUCH A GOOD TIME! door guys were so nice, staff was great, amazing female bar tender, and great crowd. Lots of attractive men too we would not have had more fun at any other bar.
The food was amazing. I had the pork chops, my wife had the crab cakes, and we split the oyster appetizer. There were specials advertised on their site for half off the wine bar on Tuesdays, but apparently in the bar area. We were situated two tables away were wine was, in fact, full price. I guess ask about specials at the hostess stand. Disappointing, but still a great meal.
The food was outstanding, our server Raymond was the best!
My friends & I were visiting Charleston for a week and wearily wandered into Stars after a lunch-less day of sightseeing. We chose the Monday night special - a 3-course fixed price option with a bottle of wine & a side order of truffle fries - and it turned out to be the very best meal of our trip. The service was fantastic - flawless, in fact. The food was better than anything I've had in Boston (my home town) for many years. We had a fresh kale salad with the perfect amount of dressing to complement the greens. The main entree, sliced tenderloin over truffle grits was phenomenal. None of us were fans of grits, but the ones they used were "courser" in texture, giving them a mashed-potatoes flavor. The butterscotch creme brulee was also made to perfection. If you want modern southern cuisine that will rival anything you eat in New York (Yes, I liked it better than The Post in NYC & Maison Blanche in Paris.), you need to stop at this venue.
Roof top bar for drinks is an excellent place to hang out! It was a rainy night but the cover kept us dry and the staff was super friendly. They even had a local whiskey which I really enjoyed.
Trendy and hip dance party with a rooftop bar and dining rooms for rent.
The food and ambiance are what you'd expect when you look at it and the staff(Rob) makes excellent recommendations!
Beautiful restaurant. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Food was amazing! Wine list was impressive. It s on a pricey side. They don t have kids menu of course, but they made a special order for my kid and it was so delicious!
Our company recently held our annual Christmas party at Stars and it was a huge success! The venue was perfect, the waitstaff and bartenders were on top of their game and the food was great. We will definitely use Stars in the future! Thanks again:)
Always a favorite of mine in Charleston. Great drinks. Cool rooftop bar. Great food
they have one of the best roof top bar in the area, very casual and lay back!!!
I came here for New Year s Eve dinner. We had a reservation but the table wasn t ready. They told us to go up to the rooftop and they would text us if the table would become free earlier or to then come down at our reservation time. We came down when our reservation was supposed to be, but the table still wasn t ready. It was New Year s Eve, so honestly we didn t mind waiting. When we finally sat down, we were served the menus and water immediately. The server was very attentive and very helpful. The food was also very delicious. The red wine selection was not that big, but don t expect much from a grill restaurant. The rooftop was packed as it was nye. The drink selection was pretty small for specialty cocktails. They had a lot of bottled and canned beer and a few on tap. Also a lot of liquor. Otherwise, I m sure you could just order simple drinks and get charged a high price.
Great atmosphere and we went at the perfect time, as it was later in the evening and not as many other customers were still there. Perfect place for the occasion - two sides of family from opposite coasts together during the Holidays. I would recommend the steak and truffle fries (...or do as I did and order two plates of the truffle fries for everyone to share but outpace your newfound rivals/family
I've been a chef for nearly 20 years so it's really tough to break into my top 10 best meals.. They definitely did. The risotto with scallops is a phenomenal dish, the flavors were perfectly balanced and the preparation was extremely well executed. The service was also great, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly.
Food was absolutely amazing! And the atmosphere perfect, no gimmicks just great food!!!
Even in the rain this rooftop can be fun. Pretty affordable drinks and great sports on tv. Worth a visit!
Great experience at Stars. We both enjoyed our meals.
Was brought here on a date and did not know about this place before going. I had the salmon, it was seasoned to perfection, The potatoes were the best I've ever had in a restaurant. I had good wine and a good time. A little chilly for the rooftop but people were in the bar area up there so it was warmer. Will def be returning. Very relaxed atmosphere but can also be romantic on the right night.
Nice location..great view of the city from the rooftop.
Great experience, and a great atmosphere. Waiter was very sociable and gave great suggestions. Food was awesome, wife had a wonderful salad though her added chicken was a bit dry. I had the shellfish and grits which was to die for. Definitely reccomended!
Amazing staff and very cool rooftop bar. This is the place to be on a Friday/Saturday night. If you are more interested in the food and hospitality, I highly recommend the filet mignon and the lobster. My server was Chris, and he was one of the best servers I have ever had.
This is the first time I ve ever written a negative review, but I felt I should warn others before booking with Stars because my experience was so disappointing. I reserved a table with Stars for my bachelor party and placed a $500 deposit. I underwent unexpected major back surgery, and informed Stars prior to the scheduled reservation that I had to cancel the reservation as a result. Stars couldn t have cared less and refused to refund my deposit, even after I offered to provide proof of my medical condition. Avoid Stars, customer service means nothing to them.
Only went for drinks and was disappointed. Cocktails are expensive and watered down. The rooftop was nice though.
Food was good but the service was horrible. We waited 45 minutes for a table that we had reservations for. The servers were slow to come by the table. Orders were wrong. Would not go back.
Great place great food lovely atmosphere and friendly staff
No reservation was made so we ate at the bar, not an issue at all, we waited a significant amount of time just to get menus and drink orders taken or to really even be acknowledged. The other people in my party just wanted a drink and desert, I was the only one who ordered actual food. I ordered their Filet Mignon medium rare, it took like 45 minutes for it to arrive and when it did it was extremely rare with a cold center, the asparagus had no flavor, and the mashed potatoes had no flavor, I was pretty disappointed. I didn t want to wait another 25 or 30 minutes after having waited 45 minutes so I ate it, paid, and left. At this price point I expected a whole lot more.
This was the worst experience of my life. I have been in the restaurant industry for 15 years so I m a little lenient when I walk into a busy restaurant. There were 3 of us and we were greeted right away by the host. She told us it would be about a 5-10 minute wait because they had a couple big parties be seated a few minutes before we arrived. Ok, that s understandable. We sat at the bar and the service there was great. We get seated at a table and the server comes over right away to tell us the specials. He then walked away to give us time to decide. 10 minutes later he comes back to take our order - kind of a long time but I figured he was a little busy taking orders from the big parties. An hour goes by, we don t have our food and our server hasn t been back to check on us or tell us our food would be out soon. My friend got up and told the waiter we still hadn t received our food and asked if it would be much longer. The waiter went over to the kitchen and then came to our table to tell us our ticket was next and it should only be a couple more minutes. We timed it, 7 minutes later and we still hadn t received our food. We let the waiter know we were upset and a manager DID NOT come over to speak with us. We left and told the host we would not be back again and her response was, oh, I m so sorry. She didn t ask why and didn t try to better our experience. This was probably the worst service I ve ever received.
Went for Sunday Brunch, food and service were exceptional. Price is right! Will be a go to from now on when I have out of town guests!
Our waiter was great, he served me glasses of champagne, my friends and I were done eating so we were going upstairs to roof top and I was stopped by bouncer and told I had to leave no explaination just said you need to leave! He had told later that I was stumbling a lot and I had drank to much which was not true I was just being careful going up stairs wearing dress and wearing heels. I was embarrassed I will never go there again and tell everyone I know not to never eat there! People there are stuck up and bouncers are unprofessional!
Pricey and the food was average. Granted, I got seafood instead of steak, however $34 for an average plate of risotto with four scallops and no starter salad is pretty outrageous. I did like the tap wine. Rooftop bar was just loud and made for those under 30. With so many other great places in Charleston, my advice is to skip this one.
First, it smelled like dirty mop water and then there were gnats and flies flying around the table the whole time we were there. Our food came out quick but I imagine that was because we were only one of 4 tables in the restaurant. Service was good but the food definitely wasn t worth the money. We both had the steak frites which we ordered medium well. It wasn t even cooked medium rare. The fries were soggy and the sauce was more of a gravy that the steak was smothered in. Food and atmosphere might be better during normal circumstances but it wasn t hitting on much this time.
The water was cold, but so was our food. The food tasted alright but it was cold and the service was also quite slow.
Hands down the best restaurant to go in Charleston! Top notch service and the food is absolutely delicious. Ask for Raymond, he s amazing!
Awesome word cannot explain, only you so go see for yourself.
Really good food. Drink menu didn t have much of a variance it was all beachy drinks pretty much. Ambiance of the place was sub par. We were mislead, thinking we could eat on the roof. Went in to celebrate an anniversary, not very romantic inside- there was a women wearing workout clothes on a Sunday evening. It was underwhelming. So many great places in Charleston not sure if I would go back.
Nice place for a date night, food was amazing! Very pricey though
Great happy hour spot and for enjoying the sunset on the rooftop bar. We will try the dining room next visit. The owner greeted us and was very pleasant.
Great experience. We came on a weeknight and our waiter Eric was very friendly. The food was outstanding doing and reasonably priced for the area.
Good atmosphere and food. It was a little cold, but rooftop has heaters. Right in the middle of King Street if you plan on going out. A great option!
My boyfriend and I ate dinner here a few weeks ago on a romantic getaway to Charleston. We chose Stars because the menu sounded good, the weather was nice, and they have a rooftop bar. We made a reservation, were seated promptly by a friendly hostess, and were excited to try the many delicious-sounding menu options. Our high expectations were not met, unfortunately. It was extremely loud inside the restaurant, to the point of not being able to hear each other screaming across our small two-person table. Additionally, the bruschetta and flounder tasted like the Dead Sea. I didn't have high blood pressure when I went here, but I could very well have left with it, considering the ridiculous amount of salt in these dishes. Upon "finishing" our meal, and sending nearly the entire plates of food back to the kitchen, no one bothered to ask us if there was anything wrong with the food. The lesson I have learned from this experience is as follows: if you want a fun drink and a cool rooftop atmosphere, this is the place to go, but if you want a delicious and romantic meal, look elsewhere to one of the many fabulous Charleston restaurants.
Before I ate there I called to make sure they were still participating in Restaurant Week. The hostess said yes and read off a few items from the special menu. I arrived and got a metered parking spot right in front. After I was seated I told the server what I wanted and she said that the special menu was no longer available. I told her that it was confirmed by another employee and several advertisements. She told me again I was wrong and I said to go check with someone. She asked the manager and he came to my table with the special menu apologizing for any miscommunication. Would have been nice to get an offer of a free drink or something. Otherwise the food and service were good. Beautiful wood and leather interior.
Great spot. Knowledgable and friendly staff. Great cocktails and nice menu. Rooftop bar is an added plus.
Best kept secret in Charleston. Excellent food and service!
Serve Sullivan was great food wonderfully fresh and hot. looking forward to roof top dinning.
Lucky to go when it wasn't too crowded. Drinks were delicious. Charleston prices (meaning not New York prices but not cheap)
This is first visit to this restaurant. The two appetizers were cooked to perfection - grilled Brussels sprouts and grilled carrots. Entrees - risotto and filet were also good. The desserts were a let down - the spice cake is very dry, the monkey bread is ok. I will go back but will skip the desserts if they are the same.
Was here for a wedding rehearsal dinner, and so cannot comment on price, but I certainly had one of the best filets I've ever had. Nice atmosphere and great service as well. Definitely recommend this place.
Great place for a meal. Great food and an excellent environment if you enjoy a space to have a nice conversation
We went for birthday dinner and had an amazing culinary experience with fantastic service! Sullivan, our server was super helpful making wine and food choices! Our cheddar tots were a dirty little pleasure - piping hot, super crispy, cheesy and with a cool dipping sauce. Our Tuna appetizer was delicious, fresh, with a spicy slaw - we ate every morsel! The Ribeye dinner we shared and it was one of the best steaks I've ever had - I didn't expect that since I eat at many great steak houses in NYC often. Cooked and seasoned to perfection with mac N cheese & beans. Food came quickly each time. Dessert was an OVERSIZED smore's pie and was decadent as you can imagine!
Bacon tatted tats. Bacon. Tatter. Tots. Granted, we are still waiting for our entrees, it has been an hour. An. Hour. Got our food a bit over an hour after ordering it. The food tasted fine, actually it was good. But the service was poor, and it was not our waiter's fault. They had a large bridal party on the roof that all came down to dinner at once. Why wouldn't management planned for this? The party had reserved the front section, the part with a view, of the roof deck. Obviously a large party. The food is bar fare, and again, it was good. And those tatter tots, delicious. Too bad it came with only five tots. The food was a four stars, management was maybe two stars.
Awesome little spot with a Saturday brunch buffet. Parking was a little bit of a hassle but that's expected in that area.
$41.00 for one juengling, one small glass of merlot, 2 small glasses of slushy drinks too pricy to enjoy a rooftop that you can't see anything from. Meal prices were too pricy, I've eaten at elegant places and enjoyed the ambiance, but just wasn't worth the effort.
the oysters were fantastic and the scallop special was perfect.
Not worth the cost for the view of a few planted trees at the rooftop
Where to begin... this place is hands down the best. From the drinks, to the food, to the phenomenal customer service it was all top notch. Their head of security is a LIFE saver and went above and beyond for our group. We cannot say thank you enough for making our visit perfect!
Nice rooftop bar catering to college crowd, wine is only available in cans or draft.
Half nice deck but out of half the beers and wines our party tried to order. Pathetic!!!
What an amazing evening of excellent wine, food, service and atmosphere. We were in town, celebrating our 29th anniversary, and we could not have asked for a more perfect culinary experience. Chris was so well-versed in wine and paired our preferences perfectly with a bottle of Ehlers 1886 (v.2013) Cab Sav. He was the perfect Sommelier! The Oysters Bingo appetizer was a spectacular beginning to our journey. Additionally, the chef sent out two beautiful bacon-wrapped Nantucket Scallops to add to our celebration. As our evening continued, Chris offered to decant a couple of glasses of the wine for comparison. He thought of everything. In short order, our entree s arrived. The Filet Mignon with Bull's Bay redmash butter, chimichurri, mashed potatoes and Asparagus was perfect. And the Nantucket Scallops (flown in fresh, daily) with truffle risotto did not disappoint! We finished up with the most spectacular desserts: Smoked Chocolate S mores Pie and Charleston Pluff Mud Pudding (with bubbly on the side). Even better than our honeymoon 29 years ago... well, almost! While the open kitchen experience could make some diners steer away if they are looking for an intimate atmosphere, we were surprised by how intimate and cozy the beautiful mid-century modern, mission style dining room felt. This is a large restaurant! But patrons have ample space to create their own personal experience without being too close to their fellow diners. Chris, thank you so much for making our evening so memorable. Our experience at Stars was the highlight of our trip and we will certainly come back the next time we are in Charleston!
Awesome rooftop area downtown. This place has a decent vibe
