Scubanauts International, Inc. - Empowering Teenagers through Scientific SCUBA Diving
Scubanauts International, Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides teenagers with an opportunity to explore the underwater world through scientific SCUBA diving. The organization was founded in 2001 by Captain Jim Wyatt, a retired Navy captain and avid diver who wanted to share his passion for the ocean with young people.
The mission of Scubanauts International is to inspire and empower young people to become leaders in marine science and conservation through hands-on experience in underwater exploration. The program is open to teenagers between the ages of 12 and 18 who are interested in marine science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields.
Scubanauts International offers a unique learning experience that combines classroom instruction with practical training in SCUBA diving techniques. Participants learn about marine biology, oceanography, environmental science, and other related topics while also developing leadership skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making.
The program consists of three levels: Basic Nautical Archaeology Program (BNAP), Advanced Nautical Archaeology Program (ANAP), and Marine Ecology Program (MEP). Each level builds upon the previous one and provides participants with increasingly challenging opportunities for exploration and discovery.
In BNAP level participants learn basic nautical archaeology skills such as mapping sites using GPS technology or conducting surveys using photogrammetry techniques. In ANAP level they learn advanced nautical archaeology skills like excavation or artifact analysis. In MEP level they focus on marine ecology where they study different ecosystems like coral reefs or mangroves.
One of the unique aspects of Scubanauts International is its emphasis on community service projects that benefit both local communities as well as the environment. Participants have worked on projects such as building artificial reefs or cleaning up beaches from debris which helps them develop a sense of responsibility and stewardship towards the ocean.
Scubanauts International has received numerous awards and recognition for its innovative approach to marine education. The organization has been featured in National Geographic, CNN, and other media outlets for its efforts to inspire the next generation of marine scientists and conservationists.
In conclusion, Scubanauts International is a one-of-a-kind program that provides teenagers with an opportunity to explore the underwater world while also developing leadership skills and a sense of responsibility towards the environment. The program's emphasis on STEM fields, nautical archaeology, and community service projects makes it an ideal choice for young people who are interested in pursuing careers in marine science or related fields. If you're looking for a unique learning experience that will challenge you both mentally and physically while also providing you with unforgettable memories, then Scubanauts International is definitely worth checking out!
