About Jefferson Performing Arts Society
Jefferson Performing Arts Society (JPAS) is a non-profit performing arts organization that has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years. The society was founded in 1978 by Dennis Assaf and Hannah Cunningham, who had a vision to bring high-quality performing arts to the Jefferson Parish community.
JPAS has become one of the most respected and well-known performing arts organizations in Louisiana. The society's diverse programming includes musical theatre, ballet, plays, and more. JPAS produces over 20 productions each year, ranging from classic Broadway shows to contemporary plays.
One of the unique aspects of JPAS is its commitment to education and outreach programs. The society offers a variety of educational programs for students of all ages, including summer camps, workshops, masterclasses, and internships. These programs provide students with opportunities to learn from industry professionals and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of theatre production.
In addition to its educational programs, JPAS also partners with local schools and community organizations to bring the performing arts into underserved communities. Through these partnerships, JPAS is able to provide access to live theatre experiences for individuals who may not have otherwise had the opportunity.
JPAS has received numerous awards and accolades for its contributions to the performing arts community. In 2019 alone, JPAS was recognized as "Best Theatre Company" by Gambit Weekly's Best Of New Orleans Awards and received four nominations at the Big Easy Awards.
The society's success can be attributed in part to its talented staff members and dedicated volunteers. From actors and musicians to stagehands and ushers, everyone involved with JPAS plays an important role in bringing each production to life.
