I had an average experience with Hospice of Little Traverse Bay. The staff was friendly and caring, but I found the facilities to be lacking. The rooms were small and not very comfortable. However, the nurses and doctors did a good job taking care of my loved one.

Hiland Cottage is a beautiful facility. But it was the staff who created the beautiful environment for my mother-in-law. She spent two months at Hiland Cottage. From the moment she arrived she was treated with respect and compassion. The staff went above and beyond with her care. We will be forever grateful.
Ugh...I had such a struggle with this hospice that it inspired me to write my first ever google review. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what I went through with them. Look around and choose wisely - there are other options in the area. I have been an RN for 39 years and have worked as a home health and hospice nurse, so I know how good it can be....Not here , not for my family - VERY, VERY poor communication. Slow to get my mom on antibiotics for a urinary tract infection (5 days). Meanwhile she was hallucinating and developing a fever. One nurse flat out lied to me. In trying to discuss the issues I had difficulty even getting anyone to respond to my phone calls, emails, and even sent a letter to the CEO of the hospice with no response. I recently switched to a different hospice - couldn't be more relieved.
Hospice helped us so much when my mother was in her last days on earth last Jan to April 2016. The nurses were so helpful and kind. Thank you Nurse Natilie Hesslink and all others that helped us through some trying and difficult times.
My Mom broke her hip & fell on Christmas Day ( her 84th birthday) she had surgery to repair her hip. Unfortunately with her other medical issues she needed to be placed in hospice care. I had requested that she go to Hiland Cottage, my mother in law was there in 2018 and they took great care of her, so I knew that my mom would be in good hands. The facility is very nice, very clean. You have access to a fully stocked kitchen/diningroom, which makes it nice when you're spending so much time there with your loved one. There's room for family members to spend the night which was wonderful for the entire family that way someone was always with her. Every room has a view of the beautiful garden, also every room has a bird feeder outside the window, you can watch the birds, squirrels, deer and on occasion a fox. The staff is so nice and caring, they were very reassuring that I was doing the right things for my mom. My siblings were in from down and out of state, the staff were very accommodating for all of us, there were up to 8 of us. We played music for our mom and we would sing to her and talk to her to try to comfort her in her last days. Overall it was a very nice experience considering what we were there for. I highly recommend Hiland Cottage.
