It took quite a while because so many people were there and I ordered the jerked red snapper but the food was delicious.
First timer. Longest wait for a carry out food order ever at 45 minutes. Owner could really use some front of house management training and some production efficiency in the kitchen (although the staff is courteous and nice as pie). My number finally called I stepped up to the counter lady who said, "I'm very sorry for the wait but I promise this will be the best damn jerk chicken you ever tasted." I smiled and said it better be. She was riight. I will go back.
I looooove the callaloo!! The food is great! The people are warm and the place is clean. One of my Southside favs. Please start making the callaloo for catering. I need a pan for my family.

Best jerk in Chicago. It's always busy so call your order ahead at least 30 min. Don't expect quick service this is definitely not fast food. It is takeout though. I was serviced by the most wonderful host. I think her name was Hollimah. I was having a rough day and her smile makes America great again! I've been to most of the Uncle Joes in the city, and all have delivered the best jerk chicken dinners I have experienced. The one on stoney though had the best calalloo of all I've tried. Authentic is authentic even if from the can and not fresh!!!
This place has loss their touch. It's a hit or miss i guess depending on the cook or the mood of the cook. For the last couple of years I've had more bad experiences than good. They have truly lost the love in their foid and let's not talk about the portions. I will not back. back

The food was delicious once you finally got it. They are slow and was out of half the menu. I had my mind set on oxtails Said it would be an hour and a half. No catfish or candied yams. Be sure to call your order inn or your going to wait at least 30 minutes
I've been to Uncle Joe's many times, and I have to say it's the best food in Hyde Park for the price. Their chicken is always perfectly cooked, and I always get it with the mac and cheese which is TO DIE FOR (but for real it could kill you because it's mostly cheese and cream). If you want to optimize your experience, I recommend ordering ahead of time by phone because it takes them quite a while to make the food. The employees who work here are also very friendly and kind.
Waited a reasonable 15 minutes the 1/2 chicken dinner was cold. Immediately I called back explained this to the person who answered and was placed on hold and unfortunately no one came to the phone afterwards. Will not patronize again.

One of Chicago's best places to get jerked chicken and the cabbage is off the chain. To me it's altogether different from the location on 47th off King Dr. I will say this, if your a stickler for consistency in customer service then be sure to call ahead and see who's working as it varies from person to person- Which is unfortunate! So I call ahead and that insures minimal interaction.....there is a wait sometimes to long, but in the end it's always worth it.
I am writing reviews for all the jerk chicken spots in the area. This is my 4th one thus far. This place is not close to my house, so it may be the only time I ever come here, but I was impressed by all accounts. To begin, I always order the same thing, a dark chicken dinner. Everything was on point and tasted marvelous. The Chicken was juicy and the cabbage was perfect. I only recieved one plantain but never the less it was very good. The meal came out piping hot and stayed heated the entire ride home. I even payed extra for some mac and chese and it was well worth the money. This place was pretty pricy, but I only judge after I ate the meal, and I did not mind paying the extra dollars for the quality. Everbody in there was very nice and I could tell they took pride in their work. The ambaniance had a very exciting carriban vibe and they made you feel welcome. Only thing that sucks about this place is they are only located in the city limits of Chicago. A couple of new suburb locatations would be appreciated and lucrative.

We waited over an hour for fresh wings....Our wings were extremely small and overcooked. The plantain wasn't in any of my orders.
Food is decent....wait is always long and they dont ever pay attention to detail so they're likely to get your order wrong. And to top it off staff is not apologetic when they mess up.
Came all the way from milwaukee to try this. A friend from chi told me about it. The girl at the counter was kind of unfriendly but the jerk chicken was . And the mac and cheese and yams were perfect. Serving was decent just wish i ordered two dinners cause its been a week and im still talking bout it.
BBQ Jerk Chicken portion was big, moist, and full of flavor! They don't skimp on the sauce either, which is awesome to eat with the rice and beans and/or side you get with a dinner. I will be returning for sure!
The oxtails are FIRE! They were tender and well seasoned. The rice was perfectly tender and delicious. I would definitely go back.

Revision: food is great but they need help in dealing with customers. I ordered my dinner online, told me it would be 45 minutes so I gave them an hour. I went to pick up my food and i walked and noticed the typical line and went to the counter to pick up my food. I was informed that i was "line cutting" and i explained to everyone that i already ordered I'm just here to pick up my food. They responded"me too". They had one long line mixed with those who haven't ordered and those who have. They really expected me to wait an unknown amount of time to pick up food I ordered an hour ago that was clearly gonna be cold when I got home. I pointed out the burden that they were putting on their customers and it was like having a conversation with a door. I will never go back to that place
Great staff, traditional, popular locally owned franchise and hang out spot. Great jamaican jerk chicken and the steamed cabbages are nicely done.
All I can say is the food here was FANTASTIC!! If you are a fan of Carribbean food like me, this place will not disappoint. We ordered 2 2 meat dinners ( 1 was oxtails and bbq jerk chicken and the other was curried goat and oxtails )which affords you the ability to order 2 meats and one side ( we had yams and Mac and cheese ) accompanied with rice and peas, plantains and bread. Wow is all that I have to say. I had been craaaaaving oxtails and they were meaty and very well seasoned. Thr goat and chicken didnt disappoint either. Sides were great, and the portion size definitely was substantial. If you find yourself in Hyde Park you should definitely check them out. The service too was very friendly , exemplified by the very friendly cashier who greeted everyone a smile and closed every transaction with calling everyone love. I definitely will return .

I always go here for jerk chicken. It has always been fresh and very tasty. There are 2 young ladies who work the front when I am there and they are always very pleasant.

Dang them oxtails are amazing! The fried bananas, yams...every side is great. The jerk chicken is perfectly spiced and succulent. It's a little pricey but the lunch special is a little more reasonably priced. Serviceis is very good, bathroom could be better.
The food is good but ultimately it comes down to a lack of respect for promptness or customer service. Hour-long waits for your food whether you call in ahead or walk in off the street. Save time and just order from Ja Grill instead.

This is my go to place for jerk. It's delicious food that never disappoints. One of the best places for jerk chicken on the south side and especially the only one in Hyde Park. It's not expensive but not cheap lol and doesn't have mediocre cuisine like some other places I won't name.
Food is decent. Problem is the wait. I've waited over 20 minutes for a single order of plantains...really. Expect to wait a long time, even if you call in. Tonight I called in curry goat and was told 1 hour. I ended up waiting around 90 minutes. I was told that they messed up by not telling me the wait would be an hour and a half because it was goat. But...I've waited that long for chicken. The manager tried to explain that during "peak time" it is longer...but I've gone all hours and it's the same deal. Further, if you know you have "peak time" maybe you can prepare better?

Ordered for lunch today. My coworker and I both stated the food was not fresh and tasted like it was from the previous night. I wanted to give Jerk Villa a try -since it had been a while but the chicken and fish was dry. Beans and rice was dry. Yams was good mac n cheese was ok... I will not be ordering from here again.

Good food. The Achilles heel of this restaurant is its wait times for food. Kitchen seems to bite off more than it can chew often. Not sure if it's a staffing or process issue but overhauls are needed.
Delicious very well seasoned... I love right around the corner and cannot escape the intoxicating aroma as I pass that way every single day lol the oxtails are just sublime. Highly recommend checking them out.
