About California Alliance for Arts Education
California Alliance for Arts Education: Leading the Fight for Equitable and Accessible Arts Education
Create CA is a coalition of organizations, educators, parents, and students who are passionate about ensuring that every public school student in California has access to high-quality arts education. The coalition is led by the California Alliance for Arts Education, which has been at the forefront of this fight since its founding in 1997.
The California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) is a nonprofit organization that works to ensure that all students have access to a comprehensive arts education. The organization believes that arts education is essential to developing well-rounded individuals who are prepared for success in college, career, and life.
CAAE's mission is to promote equity and access to quality arts education for all students in California schools. To achieve this goal, CAAE works with policymakers, educators, parents, artists, and community leaders across the state.
One of CAAE's key initiatives is Create CA. This statewide campaign was launched in 2016 with the goal of making sure that every student in California has access to high-quality arts education. Create CA brings together stakeholders from across the state to advocate for policies and practices that support equitable access to arts education.
Create CA has already made significant progress towards its goals. In 2019, Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law AB 1394 – also known as "The Student Creativity Act" – which provides funding for teacher professional development in visual and performing arts instruction.
In addition to its advocacy work through Create CA, CAAE also provides resources and support directly to educators across the state. The organization offers professional development opportunities through workshops and conferences focused on integrating art into core curriculum subjects like math or science.
CAAE also partners with schools directly through its Turnaround Arts program. This initiative brings together schools facing significant challenges – such as low academic performance or high poverty rates – with local artists who can help inspire creativity among students while improving overall school culture.
Overall, CAAE's work is critical not just for ensuring equitable access to quality arts education but also because it recognizes how important art can be as part of a well-rounded educational experience. By advocating at both the policy level and working directly with educators on-the-ground throughout California communities - they are leading an effort towards creating more inclusive learning environments where creativity thrives!
