Rob Mann Review of US Embassy in Singapore

US citizen here, frequently use their services for passport services for my family. Have had nothing but excellent experiences and service here until the last visit a few weeks back.. Normally the U.S. college kids they employ (probably summer interns) are such a pleasure to deal with. Chat you up, ask how you ended up in Singapore, super friendly and kind. The more seasoned American clerks here are really helpful, prompt, efficient, and clear in communication. Despite not being Caucasian, I have always been treated with respect and dignity. However, the last person I got treated me very poorly and had no kind of courtesy toward me whatsoever. The clerk I had to deal with seemed to be a local Singaporean from what I could tell, though she could be American as well... Anyway, I am familiar enough with the processes and what not, but she was constantly scolding me, speaking in a very curt and short-tempered way, talking to me as if I were a child, and not answering any of my questions in a coherent way. The sad part was, for the 2 people before me (both Caucasians), she gave them compliments and treated them very kind. I felt that because simply I was not a Caucasian, she profiled me and treated me with great disrespect and discourtesy. Now, I know we greatly rely and appreciate Embassy staff for the great service they do for our citizens. However, all people should be treated fairly, there should be no selective treatment based on the color of your skin. I hope this worker gets reprimanded some day for bias, being very rude, and being a very poor communicator. I felt she treated me poorly simply because I was not a Caucasian. I am an American citizen, and deserve the same level of treatment as others.
