Visited in Mid-April, 2018. A beautiful, blooming time of year. GPI has so many positive attributes - food, staff friendliness and efficiency, architecture, vistas and amenities and surrounding Asheville activities. Yet I was seriously disappointed in our room accommodation. For me it was a stark contrast to an otherwise much anticipated first visit. Our room was actually sub-par in decor and ambiance to most updated 3-star hotel chains. There are better rooms in these other hotels. We paid HUNDREDS of dollars for a one-night romantic-getaway weekend stay that included nothing else. The best thing about the room was bed and mattress comfort, which is most important next to cleanliness. I was shocked with the lack of any kind of decoration or other comfort. There were no pictures on our walls. Expanses of "blankness". The furniture was so old it was actually dirty ( two well-worn and very uncomfortable small leather armchairs, one old side table, and one long, old combined wooden used combination TV / desk wall table. It looked as if odd old pieces were taken out of a warehouse, mixed and matched and put in the room together. There was nothing romantic about our room except the view. Only one room window would open for the lovely April breeze. It was a shame. Not like any room pictures I had seen in advertising. Stark, un-romantic; almost bare, actually. The room decor, curtains, rugs need a serious upgrade.
Also, the large hall foyer fireplace and bar area is very inviting, however there was one cocktail waitress for more than 30+ people, and some of them ordered dinner. Getting a drink at the bar or even getting the waitress'attention took forever. Not sure why this place is so popular. We will not return unless invited to an event at this location. Sorry to say.
