I've been lucky enough to have travelled to 50+ countries, and have never had a problem with an airport or an airline until landing in Larnaca.. On Sep 13th after my flight from Belfast had landed at 20:30, I made my way to the connecting flights section as my final flight was to Tel Aviv at 22:00 and didn't have any checked luggage to pick up. This would've been a straightforward process in most airports around the world, but unfortunately the two "security agents" working near the x-ray machines didn't let me through. According to them, only passengers with connecting flights to Doha (Qatar Airways) and Dubai (Emirates) were allowed through, as only those airlines had service desks open in that section. I tried explaining to them that there were more than just 2 flights, but they didn't understand what I was saying as both employees couldn't speak more than a few words of English (or at least pretended that they couldn't..). So one of them called a representative from TUS Airways, so that I could talk to them and have them translate into Greek for the airport employees. I was told by the representative to simply leave the connecting flights lounge, go through passport control, and then head up to the TUS desk in the departures area. But then one of the airport agents refused to let me leave the section, even if I had just gotten off my first flight and had obviously been through security beforehand!! So then after chatting with her colleague for a while, she told me to wait for an airport policeman to escort me out. That sounded great, as I thought I'd finally be on my way.. But I ended up waiting for 45 minutes before realizing that nobody would be coming, and that the employee had lied to me about contacting someone to come over. Once I noticed that my flight was leaving in just over half an hour, and literally didn't have a single minute more to be wasted by the two airport buffoons, I demanded (furiously, and rightfully so) that they let me catch my flight. They accepted, and a third airport employee escorted me to the TUS desk in the departures area. Unfortunately, once we got there the gate was closed and I missed my flight to Tel Aviv... I asked the third employee to provide me with the names of his two colleagues that had caused me to miss my flight, so that I could submit a complaint to the airport's management to be reimbursed. He refused to do so, which I can't blame him for as he probably feared retribution. Over 2 months have passed now, and airport management still hasn't owned up to their employees' mistakes. The money I lost by missing my flight has not been returned to me, nor have I received compensation for the hotel deposits I lost in Israel. Actually I haven't been offered anything at all by the airport, despite the sheer incompetence and nonsense I had to go through. The only thing I got in response from Larnaca Airport's "PRM Coordinator" is a template e-mail thanking me for taking the time to write to them, followed by a few lines quickly shifting the blame to TUS Airways. The lack of professionalism at this airport is not only unacceptable, but embarrassing. The only thing TUS can be held accountable for is the fact that I was denied boarding 30 min before my flight (very frustrating since I've never seen a plane boarded with all passengers that far in advance.. TUS desk employee too tired to deal with another customer or make a call to the plane's crew I guess), but this never would've happened had the airport's agents not been so thickheaded. I tried to get my ticket reimbursed by TUS Airways, but their customer service officer replied that it wasn't their fault that I missed my flight and so they wouldn't be paying me back. Hopefully these incidents will discourage people from travelling through Larnaca Airport and with TUS Airways, as both are ridiculously incompetent. I for one know that I will never be using them again.. if you can't get the most basic aspects if your organization right, who knows what's going on with the more serious ones (in the aviation industry no less..).
